Deposit secures booking.. until a higher paying client appears?

Heard from my cousin about her experience with a MUA recently and honestly… the way some handle bookings is so disappointing.

She booked this MUA back in January, paid the deposit straight away, and even sent the payment screenshot as proof. The MUA’s own T&C clearly stated that a deposit secures the booking.

Then suddenly last week, the MUA texted asking whether the deposit had been paid because apparently she received a “VVIP booking request” for the exact same date and time. After that, she actually asked my cousin if she could change her event date instead 💀

Like… imagine asking someone to move THEIR event because a “better” client came along? Just because regular customers are “nobodies” compared to VVIPs, bookings can suddenly become flexible?

The event is still two months away, so maybe she thought it would be “easy” to reschedule 😂

What’s even the point of having T&C saying deposits secure bookings if they can suddenly be ignored whenever a higher-paying client appears? If customers cancelled instead, the deposit would instantly become non-refundable.

It’s really unfair how some MUAs seem to manipulate their own terms only when it benefits them. Super unprofessional and honestly such a bad way to treat clients.
