How does ERP/CBT work with figuring what you do want?
Hey guys, first time poster here. I have been struggling for the past year or so in my (31m) relationship with ROCD. It has got particularly bad recently, and I have made a promise to myself that I will start proper ROCD therapy - I have had lots of psychotherapy in the past but think I need something specific here.
I have started working through some exercises in a book that I have found helpful, but there is something theoretical I am stuck on that is stopping me from engaging properly. Most of the exercises seem to be about acknowledging but not engaging with thoughts, which is sensible and fine. But what is the idea for when you have thoughts that you should engage with? Is the idea that as you learn to quieten your mind, you will have more space for conscious reflection? Or what? I don't quite get that bit.
Grateful for thoughts.
