DJS for asymmetry and malocclusion
Looking for some advice - I got braces when I was younger to camouflage my underbite. Now I have an edge to edge bite and a slight crossbite. I have already seen an OMS who has offered to do a DJS if I’d like. However, he did mention that he thinks it’s more cosmetic than anything since I currently don’t have any functional issues. Although I do have some TMJ issues (I’m not sure if this is caused by my bite) I also do feel that one side of my mandible and maxilla are more recessed than the other leading to an underbite which is worse on one side and asymmetry. I’m worried that as I grow older I’ll develop more issues since the camouflage isn’t fixing my underlying condition. I’m curious if anyone has experienced the aforementioned and if it’s worth getting the surgery done while I’m young rather than waiting to see if I develop any issues when I’m old. I’m quite aware of my asymmetry as well although most friends have said it’s not really noticeable. Looking for some advice on whether surgery may be right for me and your personal experiences as well!
