Heavy Valves

Hello,
I recently started to play the Tuba as a side instrument I usually play French Horn and got a 3 valve Eb Tuba for fun. And it has also rotary valves like my French Horn except the ones at the Tuba are much heavier at the beginning and sometimes are a bit slow coming up. As a beginner it isnt much a problem cause I dont play fast. But it is something that triggers me sometime because the valves at my French Horn are so smooth. I already the valves 2 times the first like 5 presses its super smooth but the next ones are like at the beginning. Am I doing something wrong? It is a St. Petersburg Tuba I think it is called.
