Hi everyone! I know that the high prevalence of games on this community has been a little contentious. Games like alignment charts, fictional seasons, 1v1 matchups, simulations, quote games, alphabets, etc, are popular, but I know not everyone likes seeing multiple games a day. And sometimes the games themselves are subject to higher scrutiny. I remember putting my plans to finish a “best quote” series on hold since the mods removed that game out of fear of people getting banned if Reddit’s automods get triggered by the quotes.

As such, I would like to put forth the idea of an HK Games subreddit. Whatever games you have, you would be free to put on there. If you want to play those games, feel free to visit that subreddit. And if anyone gets in trouble just for playing a game, (eg if you get banned for quoting the show because the auto mods were triggered), I would back you up and advocate for you.

The problem is that I have never run a Reddit community before and I don’t know how moderation works. I plan to be pretty busy with exams and research coming up. Maybe I am just salty about the quotes game being taken down. Maybe I just want to play more Hell’s Kitchen games. Maybe I want to give people a “haven” to post the games and maybe alleviate the fatigue others get from seeing so many games, too.

I wanted to read your guys’ thoughts. I want to see what you have to say.

One trope that the show loves is to force the challenge results to be determined by the last round. Or even better, force the teams to be tied after the last round and force Ramsay to use a tiebreaker to determine the winner.

But what about a challenge in which the results are determined well before the final round? I call this a “challenge blowout.” Some examples include:

Season 9’s blue team winning the high school reunion challenge 3-0 after Elizabeth thought that Hawaiian and Asian food are the same thing.

Season 17’s blue team racking up so many points in the blind taste test (and the red team doing so poorly) that Ramsay ended the challenge before the final round because there was no way the red team could catch up.

Season 20’s Blue Team earning a perfect score in the final 10 challenge because the red team only scored points on 3 out of 6 possible dishes. And because Ramsay had each team take turns presenting two dishes at a time, the blue team won the challenge 4-3 before they presented their final two dishes. Ramsay himself said that the final round was essentially a victory lap for the blue team and that he wanted to see if they could earn a perfect score. They did. Their weakest dish was just something with a weird concept that was ultimately executed well.

Season 22’s blue team cut the red team’s time in half during the surf and turf relay challenge. Although by the way Dahmere was acting, you’d think that they were barely going to beat the red team.

Season 22’s blue team winning the final 11 challenge with Ryan’s butter chicken. Technically it did come down to the final round because the blue team was leading 4-3, so Carmen could have tied if Ryan bombed. But that was highly unlikely, especially when you consider the talent level of the chefs that season and the fact that Carmen cost them the challenge earlier.

So what do you guys think of a “challenge blowout?”
Are there any that I didn’t name that you enjoyed?

I know that competitors can't be eliminated after a team challenge, but surely there has to be someone who did so outrageously bad that they just did not deserve to survive that challenge, right?

For instance, if I was hosting the show, I'd eliminate Zach on the spot after the final 8 fusion challenge. In the span of one hour, he:

1. Failed to tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese cuisine
2. Insulted the entirety of East Asia with his "Japanese food is like Chinese food, and the only reason I know that is because my one Korean friend told me" comment
3. Failed to pronounce basic culinary ingredients like "bok choy," "soy sauce," "Napa cabbage," and "mushrooms" correctly
4. Failed to even cook chow mein dish correctly
5. Humiliated Ramsay in front of his guest judge

I'm Hong Kong-American, so I took that dish as a personal insult towards my culture. So if I was hosting Hell's Kitchen, I'd eliminate Zach on the spot for effectively being racist that entire challenge.

I personally like that the opening night and finale are split into two parts each. Doing so actually gives you less content in each episode. Instead of the premiere cramming in the competitors' introduction to Hell's Kitchen, the Signature Dish Challenge, the punishment/reward, learning the recipes, adapting to a new setting, opening night, and the elimination ceremony, we can split that in two episodes. This gives us a lot more time to get to know the competitors, and we also filled in the gap with the Punishment Pass Challenge!

The same can be said about the Finale. Instead of cramming one episode with the chefs celebrating, working on their menus, completing the Final Menu Challenge, drafting the brigades, teaching the menus, quelling the drama during pre-service, meeting one final time with Ramsay, the actual final service, the post-mortem, and the winner reveal, we can, once again, split it between two episodes. More time to focus on the finalists. More opportunities to connect with them.

So let me turn the question to you. Is there anything you like about the modern seasons that the older seasons did not have?

We've talked a lot about cruel punishments like the bike punishment in season 6, the AC being turned off in season 1, the disgusting smoothie punishments, etc. I know this community wants to see these punishments gone or never having existed at all. So what punishments would you all want to see instead?

Welp. I've officially gotten a message from the mods to stop my quote series. No more, guys. Sorry. I had all these different ideas, too! I was going to do a best Ramsay quote series, best elimination confessional series, best Ramsay elimination comment series, and maybe even a best quote of all time series! But no can do. The mod who gave me the message that Reddit filters out a lot of comments. Not sure how that relates. If one of the mods could give a more thorough explanation, I'd love that. Sorry to put you all on the spot. But I just thought everyone deserved to know what's going on.

Hello everyone! After the success of my "worst quote" series, it only makes sense for us to do a "best quote" series. We'll start with season 1 today.

On that note, remember how I assigned a category to every season winner from the worst quote seasons that explained why a quote was hated (e.g. Sexism/Misogyny, Violent Threats)? I'll also assign a category to each of the season winners from the best quote series to understand why a quote is so beloved. The categories are a little different and more humorous:

Ramsay Rage: Some quotes are iconic because they come from Ramsay delivering one of his roasts or quips.

Cursing is Edgy: Reserved for quotes that have a bit of cursing in them. They might be riddled with swear words or have a single precision f-bomb. And yes, I am including "mild swears" like "damn" or "hell." I don't consider them bad, but using some swear words can definitely help get someone's point across.

Screaming! Rahhhh!: Used for quotes that are delivered by someone screaming at the top of their lungs. Or just screaming at all. Sometimes, the anger makes a point memorable.

Deadpan Delivery: On the other hand, some quotes might be said with a straight face. The seriousness of the delivery combined with the absurdity of a given situation might result in humor.

Funny 'Cause It's True: Often goes hand-in-hand with Deadpan Delivery. Again, saying something true with a completely straight face during a completely absurd situation might result in a funny moment.

Out of Character: Sort of the converse of "Ramsay Rage." Sometimes, a chef might say something so out of character that you can't believe that just came out of their mouth.

Didn't Think That Through: Sometimes, a chef might say something that's so untrue or mistaken that you can't help but laugh at how wrong they are. Even better if combined with Deadpan Delivery.

Catchphrase: A chef might say one line so often that it becomes the thing they're best known for. This would be an example of the Mere Exposure Effect, which states that people prefer something that they are exposed to repeatedly compared to something that they are exposed to infrequently.

So let's see what the best quote from season 1 is! The quote with the most upvotes across all comments wins! And if anyone has any other suggestions for categories to add to explain what makes a quote so good, please make a comment.

No wonder her quote took home the "grand prize." It is terrifyingly gruesome and basically a sexual assault threat. And it was the only quote that set off the Reddit automods.

However, I have to give a dishonorable mention to the following quote:
