The Season 6 opening night was a true disaster…

Let’s just lay out all the memorable moments.

- Melinda’s Capellini Caper (cue Heather’s horrific reaction and Tennille’s quote)

- Louie “tending” to his meat and subsequent ejection

- Tiger Woods’s rubber scallops

- Amanda’s salmon blunder (freezing the salmon)

- Joseph almost getting into a fight with Ramsay

- Jim not being able to count to six

- Lovely disappearing for a “water break” for almost an hour

Am I missing anything?

If you were in Gordon Ramsay’s position during this moment, who of those four would you have eliminated?

What costed these First Black Jacket boot chefs chances of winning their own season(S6-S10 Edition)

  1. Van(S6); I say his argument with JP in Ep 2 in the dining room table over his poor performance on tableside.

  2. Ed(S7); His hungover episode at the final 9 leading towards his downfall and probably his final service in the First Black Jacket service.

  3. Sabrina(S8); I say her teammates not respecting her as a leader and her not doing enough to get along with them as a whole.

  4. Jennifer(S9); Her final service in the 2nd final 5 service where she was lacking a voice definitely did her a number in her at that point.

  5. Robyn(S10); Her final 11 service alongside getting into petty arguments with most of her teammates.

Egg challenge s7e2

They were tasked with cooking a soft boiled, scrambled and poached and sunny side up eggs in 5 minutes

How the fuck did any of them overcook the soft boiled? It takes 6 minutes to make a soft boiled egg yet a couple of them served 7-8 minute eggs in a 5 minute time cap

Gotta love the funny, stupid answer side of HK

I chuckle at this video every time I see it this answer gets me every time. Seems like just yesterday that this season was airing.

Unedited

So there were some uploads where the entire service was uploaded on YouTube without any music or cuts where we actually can see teams struggling 45 minutes on 3 appetizers. I think Heather's season was uploaded.

Are there any more?

Anyone know or ever met any of the chefs in real life?

I haven’t met him but I live an hour from where S5 Ben works now and S12 Winner Scott is from My Hometown and I go there about 3 times a week so I probably said hi to him or ate at a restaurant where he was cooking or something and didn’t know it was him

How are courses served?

We only seem to see Appatizers and Main courses. But why dont we always see Entrays and deserts? Is there a reason for this? Are they not always on the menu

Your Signature Dish?

Every chef on the show needs to present a signature dish, that perfectly describes themselves on a plate. It's the ultimate first impression to our Michelin-star host. So, if you had the great fortune to end up on this show, what would you present to Chef Ramsay, and why?

For me, I'd do a variant of the spaghetti dish I make for myself everytime I start up another watch-through of a randomly-picked season. It's kind of my special night, whenever I can pull it off. Here's the "recipe":

Basic Ingredients:

  • ½ pound of angel hair spaghetti

  • Boiling water

- Pasta Water Seasonings:

  • Salt

  • Black pepper

  • Garlic salt

  • Garlic powder

  • Lemon pepper

  • Garlic pepper

  • Adobo all-purpose seasoning

  • Italian seasoning

Sauce ingredients:

  • Marinara sauce

  • Milk

  • Applewood smoked bacon

  • Salted butter

Optional toppings:

  • Grated parmesan cheese

I'd have to make it fine-dining, by not only making my own pasta and sauce, but also making it into a chicken parm. I'd southern-style fry off two chicken breasts, and sit them on top of the pasta. I'd also have to cut down on the portion size a bit, so it doesn't look like a giant tub of spaghetti and chicken.

Holli is a really interesting winner looking back

So I think it goes without saying that Holli is one of the more forgettable winners of Hell’s Kitchen, arguably the most if you’re asking some. Comparing her amongst the likes of ones like Dave, Christina W, and Meghan, Holli really sticks out as a bit of a sore thumb. But in my eyes, she has one of the most interesting winner runs for me of any of them. Let me explain.

So, up to this point in Hell’s Kitchen, every winner has had something to them. Some sort of narrative to keep us invested in them as they go on to win the competition. You’ve got Michael whose run helped to shape the show in its early years, Heather and Rock’s dominance, Christina M’s underdog run, Danny’s growth into a mature chef that can back his talk, and Dave’s legendary run as the One-Armed Bandit. But then we get to Holli, who… doesn’t really have a narrative. In fact the edit arguably focuses more on Jay as a winner than it does her.

She’s initially written off early on due to a poor signature dish, and fades into the background a lot amongst the major trainwreck that’s this season’s Red Team. Yet it’s inspite of that, that Holli is able to show genuine potential, as she’s pretty much one of two chefs on the team you could call “good“, next to Nilka of course. And by the black jackets, Holli finally starts to get the focus she needs, showing strong performances and good leadership to where she legit starts to emerge as a potential winner. Leading to the finale where she shockingly snipes the win from Jay despite him looking poised to take the win all season… only thanks to him letting Benjamin take over with leadership though.

With Holli’s overall lack of focus before the black jackets combined with her genuine talent, it creates what’s called the ‘Sleeper Pick’ dynamic. Basically when a competitor in something shows genuine potential in what they’re competing on, yet is often overshadowed and ignored in favour of more obvious candidates. Case in point for this season, Jay.

Ellie’s another example of a winner who fits the ‘Sleeper Pick’ trope too, and arguably fits it even more than Holli does. As she had an INFAMOUSLY bad edit throughout S24 despite her incredible talent. Meanwhile Jada was receiving a lot of focus and was looking poised to win like Jay did due to the amount of focus she got, only for Ellie to take the win in the end thanks to Jada relying too hard on her friendship with Anaiya.

So, yeah, I think it’s pretty easy to understand why Holli is such an interesting winner in my eyes. But just to go over it again: The reason I find Holli such an interesting winner is how the show goes about doing her edit, giving her little focus despite her talent and ultimately making her a Sleeper Pick of Season 7.

What costed the First Black Jacket boots chances of winning their own season(S1-S5 edition)

  1. Jimmy(S1); I say his opening night performance or maybe his final 6 service where Michael had to cook everything for him on the fish station.

  2. Garrett(S2); I probably have to go with him flicking off at Ramsay during the final 6 punishment task.

  3. Josh(S3); Besides his ejection episode, I probably have to go with his final 6 performance on meat to the point where Ramsay even whispers in his ear saying that he can’t cook and that his elimination was nearby.

  4. Matt(S4); His signature dish! Honorable mention to his episode 4 service where he served pink chicken to the kids.

  5. Giovanni(S5); His episode 3 service where he had a ton of undercooked steak returned to the kitchen despite him owning a Steakhouse for a living.

Favorite season?

What season can you just repeatedly watch even though you know who will win? For me it is season 19, while I can't stand Amber, Cody, Declan, Syann and Mary Lou more than make up for her.

What Are Your Biggest HK Hot Takes?

I would love to know some of your HK hot takes and I will try and respond to as many as I can!

Here are some of mine:

Marino is better than JP, I found JP a bit unprofessional for a Maitre D and I thought he was overly snide at times.

I'm not fond of Jason Z from S12. I found him way too over passionate and I didn't like how he used physical intimidation in arguments (especially in his feud with Sandra, I don't blame her for not wanting to help him win).

S12 generally is overrated. Scott and Rochelle are all timers but aside from that, there isn't anyone I find remotely compelling.

Virginia was the rightful S2 runner up (I know this isn't as hot nowadays).

S22 has superceded S6 as the best season (no idea if this is spicy or not).

I prefer the modern seasons to older seasons because of Ramsay becoming more of a mentor.

Holli rightfully won S7 and Jay winning would leave him as easily the most unlikeable winner.

Season 14 episode 14

This is my first time watching season 14 and I’m on the first black jacket elimination episode.

I know Megan is really liked within this sub but honestly she comes off as super bitchy to me. In this specific episode I can’t believe that Megan and others are only voting Michelle from “process of elimination” even though she hasn’t done anything wrong.

Just my opinion but I think it’s clear both Nick and Milly did the worst because they both messed up multiple times during the service. Nick is very obvious but at least he can take it and say okay I’m the first one going up. I think Milly not voting for himself is understandable but still cowardly when he knows he did the worst after Nick.

T even mentions prior to them talking that it’s all about last nights dinner now but yet she doesn’t want to vote for Milly either? So it’s all cool to just vote for people based on how much you like them versus actual cooking ability??

Don’t get me wrong I love Hell’s Kitchen and I know it’s more Ramsay’s decision than anyone else’s. But I can’t help but feel bad for Michelle because she hasn’t done anything wrong during service and is just getting ganged up on because the other black jackets like someone else better. It’s not a team game anymore, it’s individual. So why shouldn’t it be based on their performances?

I usually only lurk in this sub but honestly this episode pissed me off so badly I had to make one lol

Edit: I’m sooooo satisfied that Ramsay called them all out on it during the actual elimination. He saw through all of their bullshit and told them just how negatively it reflects on them!! Exactly!! I’m so glad he said he was disappointed in them. Milly you thought you were gonna get away by being likable LOL 🤣

Meghan S14

Given how Meghan herself openly admitted in an interview that she was a bit of a prankster and that these moments didn’t make the cut, would anyone else like to see the raw unedited footage from S14 (dorms included) be released so we could make a Meghan prankster/villain edit?

"Sometimes, some things are best left unsolved. The more we try to find out about them, the more dead ends we discover." Wait, why am I trying to give an inspirational quote, I'm just posting this on here.

What is a season you can't bring yourself to watch?

Me personally, I can't urge myself to watch season 17. Just knowing the level of toxicity that season brought, from Elise round 2 to Josh not getting a chance on the red team to Nick getting screwed out of a win, all of that just makes me feel like it's not worth it.
