How do I get eyeliner to stay on my waterline?

Hey there!

My usual makeup look is liquid eyeliner wings, but I’ve always loved the look of smoky eyes as well. I used to try to do a Smokey eye (It wasn’t really lmao, it was just black eyeshadow packed on and smoked out with a fluffier brush with eyeliner that I never blended properly). I’ve wanted to learn how to do Smokey eyes properly.

I’ve always had a problem with getting eyeliner to stay on my waterline and I can’t figure out why. I’ve tried different brands and using a q-tip beforehand but it always just ends up completely bare after an hour or so.

This is a look I did a week ago with a new kohl eyeliner I got. This is how it looked around 20 minutes after doing it (Like around 8:10 AM) and then around 3:30 ish. My eyes were really hurting and the eyeliner was crusting at the corners of my eyes and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to fix this. I am a contact wearer if that’s any help. I’ve also never had the burning problem like I did that day when I use my regular MAC brush liner.

Product list:

- MAC 24 hour eye base prep +prime
- Some old Sephora nude palette from a Christmas collection called “Wishing You”
- Morphe Neutral Territory Palette
- Mac Studio Fix concealer
- MAC Kohl liner in the shade “Feline”
- Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara 4D in “Perfect Black”
