Tonight the Orange and Blue return home, bringing with them one point from their 1-1 draw in Florida. A good result on the road, but several ahem “decisions” going against the Gary’s makes it feel like we could’ve had all 3. Tori Penso was not assigned a match for this midweek matchday, for the record. Could be she just stayed behind in Orlando to visit Disney,though

The visiting Yankees -er- Mets -wait that’s not right, either… PIGEONS! Got there eventually. Anyways. The visiting pigeons come off of a devastating home loss, giving up 3 unanswered runs goals to blow a 2 run goal lead late to the Phillies Philly. That makes a 3 game losing streak for them including Leagues Cup

Sorry for the unusual lateness of this regularly scheduled shitpost, I was out late last night watching our Queen of the Queen City, the Rose herself, beat KC Current 2-1. Very weird game, KC scores before Gotham can touch the ball, then Gotham dominates the possession like 70-30, getting two back before the half. A red was rescinded after a scuffle and a lengthy VAR review, and a Gotham third was waived off for screening the keeper. Very fun, I would freaking love to bring Women’s Soccer to Cincinnati and have this all the time. And all respect to Gotham, their supporters, and Cloud Nine, who all made the atmosphere so great - but you can’t convince me that Cincinnati wouldn’t do it better

Then the train back to my hotel literally took an hour. And then I slept in real late

Anyways, to the men’s team.

Coming off a devastating 1-2 loss the Atlas, knocking us out of the Leagues cup, we now travel to the land of the mouse to play a team that we beat 6-2 in our last encounter

It’s not really the same team, though. While we have yet to make any significant moves, Orlando has added one Antoine Griezman, who is quickly becoming MLS’s second media darling.

We’re getting our own media kudos, though, with Evander, Kevin, and Bucha being hailed as the hottest attacking trio in the league

With 6 teams sitting at 6pts in the table, 3 of which are playing Liga MX teams with 0 points, it's starting to look likely that an MLS team (or two) will be eliminated from this competition without ever having lost or drawn a game

Let's make sure thats not us. Put 5 up on what will likely be a heavily rotated Atlas and we'll certainly be able to beat any goal differential that Chicago or Austin or Dallas can put up against Cruz Azul, Club America, or Toluca (IN MEXICO, EVEN)

8:00 kickoff! Come hungry for goals, hungry for a W! 2 more wins gives us 2 shots at a CCC berth! 4 more gives us a trophy! Even if it's the most mickey mouse of those available, silverware is silverware!

Hope the work week treated you all well. It’s been nice having soccer every night again, so at least that’s one good thing about this tournament.

Tonight’s match will be against the team representing Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, otherwise known as Pumas. That’s right, one of the biggest clubs in Mexico is owned by a university. It’s like if OSU had a pro football team, just like OSU fans pretend they do

Pumas got their ass kicked in round 1, coming in to this match with 0 points and a -3 goal differential, which all but effectively eliminates them from the competition. If they can pile on the goals in the next two, they might make the cut. So I’d expect them to come in hot and heavy

Meanwhile we started out strong, with a vital 3 points and +2 goal differential, which is still only good for 5th in the table and just below the cut line, currently.

Did everyone have a fun weekend? Good. No rest for the wicked, though, as we've got a short turnaround into probably one of the more difficult on-average Leagues cup draws, with one of the harder ones (relatively) first.

For those confused about the format: Essentially each MLS team plays 3 games against 3 Liga MX teams (and vice versa), and the 4 teams with the most points from each league makes it to the knockouts. Going off last years results, 8-9 points gets you through, 6-7 points is on the bubble based on other results, and 5 is almost certainly not enough. So, essentially, a loss in the "group" stage means youre out. It's a brutal cut line

Oh, also, theres no ties. We doing this next-pro style, where a draw results in a shootout, and the winner of the shootout gets 2 points instead of 1

If we do get to play tonight, we’re playing a team coached by Pat’s old mentor, former USMNT coach Bruce Arena. The man that got fired from the Revs for something so heinous that we’re not allowed to even know what it is!

Anyways, he’s taken San Jose from a bottom feeder to a real contender in the west, and it only took all of his old Revs players following him there to do it

Dado is suspended for that little love tap that got the crew so upset, and Miazga is out on yellow accumulation, so expect to see some changes in the lineup. Probably for the best that Matt is out, as this game will be reffed by the man who hates pizza, Victor Rivas himself

That out of the way, on with our regularly scheduled programing

It's back to league play, with the second hottest offense coming up against the second stingiest defense. This is feeling to me like the proverbial Unstoppable force and Unmovable object. The caps were supposed to restart their campaign last week vs the Fire, but it was postponed due to... well... fire. So both teams are coming in fresh, although the caps have a couple extra plane rides under their belt

No significant transfers yet this window for either team, with the only move being Gilberto Flores going out on loan back to Libertad Asunción. It's pre-transfer window action all around!

Tonight! 7:30p at TQL stadium! But actually 7:38p because coming back to MLS means games dont kick off when they say they do again! Be there and cheer on the boys for 90+ again!
