For context I have gotten a new roommate back in March or April. With this being said since they were newly moving in and everything I told them they could help themselves to anything in the fridge as I know they don’t have much (he didn’t put any groceries in the fridge/freezer) thinking it would only last for a week or maybe just be here and there and they would ask me for it. But no this person has continuously been eating my food all the time with only asking me a few times for certain items I meal prepped for myself. I mentioned a grocery pitch in if they wanted to share food to which he said he would buy his own food for now since he didn’t want to do that at the moment so I said okay no worries, just let me know when you decide.
Fast forward to now, I bought groceries again (only a few items) just a few days ago. Out of the items I bought a big ass $8 bag of chicken nuggets. I only ate 10 nuggets while he ate the rest of the bag in less than a week hell days even. Then my yogurt he asked to have some of it (brand new 32oz container) I said yes, he ate the whole thing!! Like damn I didn’t even get a bite out of it.
So now I have requested $200 for everything that I haven’t agreed to him having or offered to him plus anything else he may wants to eat as he also opened up a bag of meatballs that I was saving for party meatball day.
EDIT: I will be taking the L on the food cost as many people have pointed out that I might not even receive the money. From here on out, I won’t be sharing anymore food with my roommate. Hopefully he still sends me money but if not 🤷🏻♀️ it’s a lesson that was learned and I won’t make the same mistake again. Thank you to those who understood what I wrote and gave me sound advice, hopefully everything works out.
P.s some people wanted to know what is party meatball day so I’m just gonna put it here. It’s a get together where you serve sweet (brown sugar) barbecue meatballs along with other game day foods and have a good time with friends/family.
