I'm not sure why, but I've wanted a steelie ever since I got into biking two decades ago. Super excited to have the opportunity to make it a reality! This is going to be my first Marino build so we'll see how it goes!

My original plan was to just buy a L Honzo, but it's a hair too aggressive for what I do (light trails and pavement) and they seem to be out of stock in that size. Instead of waiting for new stock, I decided to make a custom build where the geometry is a blend between the Santa Cruz Chameleon 7 (angles and 415-430 adjustable chainstay dimensions) and the Honzo (overall fitment). The hope is that it'll fit like a Honzo but ride more like a Gen7 Chameleon? Idk, we'll see.

So far the ordering process was very straightforward and the guys at Marino were very responsive and helpful. We went through several design iterations before settling on these numbers and they were very accommodating when working through the design process. So far, I'm very happy with their customer service. I'll be sure to update once the frame arrives!

For reference, I'm 6'2 and mostly ride flat but rooty trails with very little drops or downhill sections. Lots of pedaling. I also do quite a bit of pavement riding around the city so I don't need anything crazy modern and slacked out. Hoping this will be a good all around rider, what do y'all think?!

Alright Y'all, I used to bike on the daily about a decade ago, but life happened and I've been out of the game for a while now. I'm looking to get a steelie hardtail and am overwhelmed with the new choices and modern geometry.

My current rig is a 15 XL Kona Honzo. I absolutely love this thing, but I've always felt like it was just a hair too big for me. Ialways wished I had gotten the L instead, but I let the sales guy talk me up to Xl... I'm 6'1.5"

I still really like the components on the Taro, full Deore setup, 130mm sektor fork (not the best, but does the job), carbon raceface bars, with a nice dropper and raceface crank. I really just plan on finding a frame to swap everything over to. I want to go with Steel to cut down some trail harshness.

I was really eyeing the Kona Honzo ST in LG, but they appear to be sold out. I also think it might be overkill for my area. Our trails are mostly flat-ish heavily wooded singletrack and we don't have any crazy technical or downhill sections. Mostly XC style trails.

Anyway, my current plan is to get a custom frame built by Marino that will mimic the geometry of a existing bike, but will fit all of my existing components. I am really curious to find something similar in style to my Taro, but that can climb well, handle rooty sections with ease, and be comfortable enough to ride all day. I also felt really top-heavy on the XL taro, so I'd like to find something a hair smaller that will feel more grounded... Any thoughts?

Current short list for geometry is Honzo ST, Grim Ripper, and Specialized Fuse, but I don't know if I'm in the correct ballpark or not.
