How much equity invested capital required by age 36

FIRE required equity invested capital

How much equity capital should I aim to invest over the next 6 years to reach FIRE?

I’m 30 years old and currently earn around ₹60 lakh per year. I’m working towards building a FIRE corpus and wanted to get perspectives from people who are further along in their journey.

So far:

\- Total corpus accumulated: \~₹1.9 crore

\- Amount invested in Indian + US equity mutual funds: \~₹1.1 crore

\- Age: 30

\- Annual income: \~₹60 lakh

I’m planning to continue working for approximately another 6 years, potentially until age 36.

My question is specifically about invested capital rather than future market value.

In other words, ignoring what the portfolio may grow to because of market returns, how much cumulative capital would you personally aim to put into equities by age 36 before switching to a “buy, hold and largely forget about it” approach?

For example, would you want to have invested ₹2 crore, ₹3 crore, ₹4 crore+ of actual principal into equities before feeling that compounding can do most of the heavy lifting from there?

Would love to hear how people pursuing FIRE think about the amount of capital invested vs. the eventual market value of the portfolio.
