After starting the game on Steam, I hear what seems to be the menu music, but the screen stays black and no other sounds play. I’ve tried all four launch options, but nothing changes.

Steps I’ve tried so far in this order, more or less:

• Disabled NVIDIA App overlay in the NVIDIA app - Nope
• Tried Alt+Enter and F11 to force a windowed screen - no effect
• Added -windowed and -sw in advanced launch options - zilch
• Verified there are no mods; only RTV.exe and RTV.pck are in the folder
• Attempted to launch the game directly from the exe - Nada
• Deleted NVIDIA App - No dice

Something I noticed on the black screen is that pressing the ESC key makes a flashlight-like click sound, and the mouse cursor disappears. Click ESC again, same click sound, and the cursor comes back.

Laptop Specs:

• 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700HX (2.10 GHz)
• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU (8 GB)
• Intel UHD Graphics (2 GB)
• 32 GB RAM
• GeForce Game Ready Driver Version 596.36, Released Apr 28, 2026

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Here’s what worked for me:

1. Open Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics.
2. Only a few apps were listed, so click Browse and add the game’s executable (RTV.exe).
3. Once added, click the little arrow on the right of the game entry to expand its settings.
4. Under GPU preference, select your high-performance GPU instead of “Let Windows decide.”
5. Leave Optimizations for windowed games on
6. Close Settings and launch the game directly from the executable (RTV.exe).
7. The game started successfully!

This fixed the black screen issue for me.
