Rehoming a Jack Russell - help!

Hello! We have recently been given the opportunity to rehome an 8 year old Jack Russell whose owner has sadly passed away. We already have a dog, a 14 year old Tibetan Spaniel who is an angel, very calm and laid back. We took him in yesterday after letting the dogs meet previously in a park where they got on unbelievably well, no barking at each other at all, just sniffing and running around. However, since we’ve taken in the JRT, he’s gotten very aggressive towards our dog and has been barking, growling and even going for him multiple times, to the point where my partner and i had to sleep in seperate rooms with a dog each as we were worried having them together while we were asleep would result in the JRT becoming more aggressive. I want to note as well that our other dog has not reciprocated this in any way, he’s deaf so doesn’t react to the barking or growling and just seems like he wants to be friends.

Is there anything we can do to help them to get along? I would hate to have to return the JRT to his owner’s family but it feels very unfair to put any strain on our 14 year old dog. Any advice is welcomed!
