My shitty ex-boss is finally getting what’s been coming
My (35F) ex-director (40ish F) is finally getting hit by karma. I worked for her for 3 years, and she was a complete nightmare. When I was hired, she only had complaints about the person that formally had my position. I slowly learned that there was a long string of people that over the previous few years quit because of how terrible a manager she is. She’d turn coworkers against each other, refuse to manage any situations, never had a nice word about anyone including past and current coworkers as well as her superiors. (We worked at a department for the city, she is the director and I led a department under her). Instead of managing anything, she assigned us a bible-based personality book trying to get us to manage ourselves. I never really got caught in all the drama of the place, but she would vent about other problems in our meetings. She always had one or two favorites that would switch out all the time, reward those that did absolutely nothing, and criticize me for successful programs. It seemed like the more people I brought in, the more critical she became.
I started with going to the assistant director about my concerns, and for a while she tried to help, but she was also facing a lot of the same things with the director undermining her, getting upset at her for things that weren’t her fault, and generally making her life terrible.
She started reassigning people under me to different assignments without consulting me. Within a few months, she completely moved my entire team out from under me and gave me all of their assignments while also expecting me to add programs. I was getting more and more stressed, and she began really micromanaging. She started writing me up for tiny things like a patron telling her I didn’t have a very specific item and wouldn’t be able to purchase it for her. I went to the city to complain about her several times, and they refused to do anything. The assistant director realized she might save her job if she turned against me, and started blaming me for her issues. The director gave me a bigger write up that resulted in a suspension and I finally quit because I couldn’t handle her anymore.
She very quickly hired her best friend to my position, then went to the city and had a big battle getting the assistant director that turned against me fired. She moved her friend up into the assistant director position and hired another close friend to my former position. There have been several other people that I worked with that have quit in the last few months because of her. Now, her best friend that she quickly filled my position with and moved up has quit because of her.
It turns out that the city that has been turning a blind eye has finally decided to investigate her because of the incredibly high turn over rate, and it’s really not looking good for her. I am overjoyed that she’s finally getting what’s coming to her.
tldr: My horrible ex-boss ran me and everyone else off and now she’s being investigated. Can’t wait for her to be fired.
