Tom’s Creek Blacksburg VA
Was down in Blacksburg to move my son into a new apartment so we took our fly rods and hit Tom’s Creek Saturday morning. Only landed a couple of minnows but the intersection of Poverty Creek and Tom’s Creek was a neat environment.
Stopped At Murray’s Fly Shop on the way back and picked up some gear. Despite the lack of fish we had a great time!

First Trout in 40+ years
It’s been a while since I last picked up a fly rod. After too long of a hiatus I finally decided to get back into it. After listening to a ton of VFC podcasts and videos, I finally stepped back into the water today.
Showed my son how to cast in the back yard and hit the Rapidan in Shenandoah National Park. We had a blast! Beautiful river, lots of bites, one caught fish, and a close encounter with a swimming copperhead!
After 40 years, I’m hooked. Headed back out next weekend. Happy to take any river recommendations near or in the SNP!
