London with kids: goal is a slow itinerary

We’re staying in Chelsea for a week with our two kids (4 and 2) and trying to keep the itinerary relaxed. We have been as adults and I lived in London for a year but with kids is a new experience completely.

Would love feedback on pacing, anything that doesn’t make geographic sense or anything you’d swap for something else. We are really not pushing it on activities but I am overthinking it and feeling like maybe we’re not doing enough? One thing to note, we live in a big city so the kids have been to so many museums (we’ve been to multiple huge natural history museums), I didn’t want to overload our itinerary with them unless they were truly different, but willing to add for anything that’s really worth it!!

Saturday: arrival day

  • Settle in, groceries, explore Chelsea (playgrounds etc)
  • Ride a bus/ tube for novelty
  • Duke of York Square Food Market
  • Naps/rest
  • Early dinner (probably pizza)

Sunday: Covent Garden

  • London Transport Museum
  • Covent Garden, Neal’s Yard
  • Walk through Piccadilly, maybe go to Hamleys
  • Home to rest
  • Sunday roast at Cadogan Arms
  • Ice cream

Monday: Hyde Park

  • Serpentine Lido in the morning
  • Hyde Park exploring
  • Pit stop at Harrods (mainly for toys / coffee / food)
  • Home for lunch/rest
  • Evening: either Battersea Park concert or Primrose Hill to see friends

Tuesday: Westminster

  • Easy morning in Chelsea
  • St James’s/private 2-hour Westminster walking tour (kid friendly, they’ll be in the stroller and we can stop as much as we need to)
  • Lunch somewhere (suggestions?)
  • Home/rest
  • Dinner in Chelsea (likely Blue Bird)

Wednesday: South Bank

  • London Eye area
  • Walk South Bank toward Tate Modern
  • Millennium Bridge
  • Home to rest
  • Afternoon tea at The Dorchester
  • Easy dinner at home

Thursday: Richmond

  • Richmond Palace area
  • River walk
  • Pub lunch/playground
  • Otherwise unstructured

Friday: Depart

Looking for critique of my restaurant list for kids trip

Hi all! We’re coming to London this summer with our kids (4 years old and 18 months), it’s our first time planning London as a family trip. They are city kids and are used to going out to eat, but they’re still kids of course.

We’re staying in Chelsea (but are open to eating everywhere) and trying to put together a list of restaurants that are genuinely kid friendly without being tough for adults. The list below is just a starting point, not meant to be exhaustive. Would love peoples’ thoughts!

I feel like this question comes up a lot in other subs, and the answers tend to be either “go to Wagamama” and “this Michelin starred restaurant happens to have a children’s tasting menu.” There is definitely a middle ground that most people want.

Easy Italian
Mucci’s
The Jam
Polpo
La Mia Mamma King’s Road

Chain / Multiple Location Spots
Dishoom (Kensington)
Pizza Express (Chelsea)
Franco Manca South Ken

Nicer Spots
Bentley’s
Hawksmoor
Afternoon tea at the Dorchester
The Ivy Chelsea Garden

Food Markets
Seven Dials
Borough (maybe)
Mercato Mayfair

Further Out from Chelsea
Mangal 1
The Holly Bush

Sunday Roast
Harvest Moon
The Cadogan Arms
