Should I stay in Denmark Hill (South) or Leyton (North-East)?

Pretty straightforward. Would you recommend I book a month-long Airbnb in Denmark Hill (south, between Brixton and Peckham) or Leyton (a little north of Hackney)?

I’m 29/W from Toronto, Canada. I’m looking for a neighbourhood that is lively and diverse. I don’t need luxury, just somewhere where humans actually live and enjoy life. Both areas are about an equal distance from central London with the tube so I’m really just curious about how folks feel in both areas. Thank you :)

London proposal?

Hey everyone!

My gf and I are visiting London in a couple weeks (only officially decided last week) and I would like to propose on the trip but would love some recs for places to maybe do so! Looking for something not private but not super crowded and we love nature settings/conservatories (for example I’ve been looking at Queen Mary’s rose garden if anyone thinks that’s a good/bad idea).

In addition to location recommendations if anyone knows a local photographer they would recommend that would be willing to take some photos (I’m happy to pay for services) I’d love to capture the moment!

Thank all of you for your help!!

(PS if anyone knows some good restaurants or fun spots to celebrate a successful proposal we are always looking for local recs too!)

Did a SideQuest in London: Found the tiniest statue hidden on a wall What other London Sidequests should I try?

I thought my mate was winding me up when he told me London's smallest public sculpture is a memorial dedicated to a stolen cheese sandwich

Turns out it's a real thing

It's a tiny sculpture of two mice eating cheese hidden about 15 feet up on the side of a building on Philpot Lane

The lore behind it is wild: apparently two Victorian builders fell off the scaffolding to their deaths because they got into a fistfight over a missing lunch

After they fell the crew found out actual mice had stolen the sandwich so they carved this to remember them

Honestly, looking for a microscopic bronze mouse on a random brick wall in the middle of the city felt like a literal video game quest.

What are some other hidden and oddly specific London experiences I should look out for while I’m here?🤔

Brunch / lunch recommendations

I’m travelling down from the North to London (King’s Cross / Old Street / City Road) for an afternoon appointment and will have some time beforehand.

Does anyone have any good lunch/brunch recommendations?

Ideally somewhere casual, not too expensive, and fairly easy to get to by public transport.

just looking for somewhere decent before the appointment.

Recommendations for a 1st BRIEF visit to London in September?

My partner and I will be traveling to Europe this fall. We will have one full day in London and are looking for ways to spend it.

We wish we had more time to spend in the city, but the way the tickets back home fall, we only have a few hours on a Wednesday evening and a full Thursday before we leave early on Friday morning.

What would you include as a must-see in one day?

We enjoy theater, so are considering a show (Cabaret or Mousetrap) and we are staying in Bloomsbury, but other than that, we have no plans. We also enjoy history, British TV and Literature (especially Pratchett) and are open to most things.

We considered the British Museum, a palace tour, a high tea as well, but nothing has been set yet.

I'm not sure if it would be better to "see as much as we can see" in that time frame or if we should just choose 1-2 things and get a good experience.

Looking for tickets to Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style for August

Hello! I'm hoping to find 2 or 3 tickets for the exhibit -- August 9, 10, or 11 would work. We are coming from America and are HUGE royalists -- we've been looking forward to this for a over a year. Thank you!

As soon as arrive at Heathrow airport, should I take black taxi or uber? Which is safer and affordable?

I know the train is the cheapest way to get into the city. However, I'll be arriving around noon with one checked suitcase and a carry-on. After spending several hours on a plane, I'm wondering if it would be worth paying extra for a taxi or Uber to get to my accommodation instead.

From a safety perspective, which would you recommend? I've heard about some issues with Uber, so I'm curious whether licensed taxis are generally considered the safer option, especially for someone arriving with luggage and traveling alone.

What's the one thing you hate most about commuting in London?

Mine would probably be the unpredictability. Between delays, overcrowding and rising costs, it feels like there's always something.

What's the biggest frustration for you?

Advice for Trip with Teen Girl

I am taking my niece to London next spring (April) and below is my current tentative itinerary. I feel like it’s missing something extra special to mark the trip. We were going to also do Paris and I was going to take her to stay at Versailles so I wanted to find something really cool for London.

I’m a big Tudor history fan and my niece is fairly girly, likes pop music, has never left the country before, big Lego fan (not sure if the London Lego store is worth visiting?), not an adventurous eater, and isn’t super into history but I think will still be interested in seeing landmarks since this will be her first big trip.

Any ideas for things to do with a 16 year old girl?
Anything below that we should get rid of to swap with something else?
Are private guides for the tours of places like Hampton Court/Tower of London worthwhile?

Day 1 - Land in AM, drop bags at hotel (by Hampton court), Hampton court & gardens, early dinner/boat tour
Day 2 - Breakfast, Head to London, drop bags at hotel (covent garden), lunch by hotel, Harry Potter driving tour, murder express dinner
Day 3 - Westminster walking tour, lunch or afternoon tea at Sketch, vintage shopping(?), Six musical, late dinner
Day 4 - Tower of London, lunch, get ready, early dinner at O2, Olivia Rodrigo concert
Day 5 - go home

I would like to see a fox.

I will be in London for 3 days in October. I really just want to see a fox. Where should I go? Is there a park/neighborhood that is notably overrun with foxes? Of note - I saw 2 at Highgate cemetery last time I was in London, and am totally willing to go there again if that’s the most reliable place they tend to hang out.

I will only accept “in my back garden” as an answer if you agree to let me come over and look at them.

Canning town stay

Family and I are looking at a seemingly great airbnb near the West Ham station. Can anyone share anything about the neighborhood? We plan to walk a lot and we live in a big city and spend time in big cities so I know the base level of stuff likely to encounter.

But was just wondering if anyone could speak to the area and please tell me where to find a potato truck like the ones I see on tiktok. Thanks

Tips for heatwaves

Decided to make a last minute trip next week to London after losing our dog this week.

However, the heat is coming it seems! Only staying in Fulham and bopping about some art galleries but I know London heat is quite strong and so any tips on keeping cool asides the obvious of water and air conditioned galleries would be most appreciated!

Is there actually an audience for exploring ordinary places in the UK, or am I wasting my time?

I make exploration videos around the UK, the problem is, I genuinely cannot tell whether anyone actually wants that sort of content anymore. It feels like travel videos now only work if it is Japan, Dubai, a £500-a-night hotel, someone spending loads of money, or a list of places TikTok has already decided are hidden gems….

Part of me thinks ordinary UK towns are far more interesting than people give them credit for. The other part thinks I am putting real time into making videos about places nobody cares enough to click. So be honest, would you ever watch someone explore a random British town properly, including the boring bits as well as the interesting ones or is this type of travel content completely saturated now and I should probably accept that people do not care and go back to my day job?

Examples of my videos in comments (for context on type of video)

Heathrow arrivals lounge in T2/3?

I'm landing in Heathrow T2 at 6am and need to take a shower before heading to work meetings. I'll need to leave Heathrow in a car around 7:30am.

I understand the T2 Plaza Premium arrivals lounge is closed. Are there other arrivals lounges I can use in T2 or T3 for a shower? I'm flying Star Alliance, business class. I have read that there are BA/oneworld arrivals lounges, but those won't be available to me.

Thank you!

Staying in an aparthotel in Canary Wharf as base for a 3-week stay?

Is it a good idea? It's my 10th visit or something like that, but I have never been in Canary Wharf. I found a place that is close to Elizabeth Line, so it should be easy to get to places in London.
