Fun Sorcerer Idea

I was reading the PHB, and I saw a line suggesting that a backstory for your character could be that you were an experiment by a lich.

So I had a funny idea. That’s your backstory, but this lich keeps turning up to see how their creation is progressing. I was thinking they would be a wizard in class, so there would be awkward scenes where the lich tries to teach the sorcerer how to be a wizard, and then gets frustrated when it of course doesn’t work.

Kinda a funny npc to pop up every so often when you level up a few. Maybe even a patron to the rest of the group.

Game where magic has a lot of uses outside of combat

Idk. In the games I have played, magic is mostly used for blowing stuff up. And while it’s fun, I’d love to see a magic system that wasn’t just chucking nature at people. Preferably of the RPG type.

Religion in a World

I like the idea of religions in my setting, but I don’t know how to properly implement them. So I have some questions.

  1. How to make different religions. IRL I only have experience with Christianity, but I don’t want my world to feel that way except for a Monotheistic religion. I was thinking of taking inspiration from Skyrim for a polytheistic system.

  2. Legitimacy of other faiths. A cleric of Bahamut meets a cleric of the goblin god Malguebiet. How do they view one another? Both are clearly getting divine powers, so what makes one the superior religion? Is it morality? But if so, then that shows they believe that morality comes before their god.

  3. Racial Deities. DnD typically has gods for a specific race, like Orcs have Gruunsh and elves have Correlon, but that has some racial issues. Like why would a human worship an elf god? More likely different cultures would have different gods, but that multiplies the worldbuilding I have to do.

  4. How to have this interact with my players? I’m planning to let my cleric choose a god and then add that god to the setting. But how else should religions react to the party? What sort of interactions could my players have?

Animalistic Dragons Vs Sentient Dragons?

Do you like when dragons are a part of nature like a tiger, or when they are sentient creatures like WoF or Smaug.

I generally prefer the sentient ones. I like roleplaying a dragon that can think. Although I prefer it when they fight like an animal. No dragons with guns please.

I love mz4250’s collection of dragons, and would like to paint a greatwyrm or two from his work on Fizban’s treasury. But I don’t have a printer.

What should I do? I want a big dragon mini for a villain, but minis are all so expensive. I don’t know how to obtain what I want. I can’t print it myself, and don’t know where to get a service that could. Any advice?

I’m taking Old Snarl and dumping him into a home brew world to be a potential Arch-Villain.

How do I make a potential storyline with him? He’s such a ludicrously massive dragon, that I don’t see how you could do any damage to him.

I tried to research his lore, as well as rules for colossal monsters, but it’s still an issue.

Concepts- his red dragon egg essence drain spell is failing, and old age is creeping onto his doorstep. He seeks an ancient scroll that gives true immortality, in order to escape the inevitable.

Red dragons are mustering armies of mercenaries and minions to fight the greatwyrm, to prevent him from being the death of their race. But it’s also causing political upheaval.

Klauth has vanished, causing countless to flock to his domain to loot the hoard. But he isn’t dead, just lurking in the background, watching.

Klauth has been infected with a brain disease causing him to rampage. He must be put down for good.

Tiamat causes an outrage, by giving her other chromatic children a chance to be her favored and take the place of the red dragons. Klauth is the leader of the red dragons who are desperate to keep their spot.

For the fight, I don’t know how to handle his size.

Ideas. Using dragonslayer weapons to climb him like the worms in Dune. Attack individual scales to pry them off and leave weak spots to attack.

Use magic to raise your PCs size to gargantuan, still smaller than Klauth but big enough to do melee damage. Then have a proper kaiju battle in the clouds.

Go inside him to inject his heart with a lethal poison.

I’m talking about the absurdly large mini of the red dragon, dark red and on a black square base. I don’t have a good picture of it.

As much as I love a giant dragon, I don’t like the anatomy. The wings look off with the way they are curled inward- they would look better fully opened like a frill to make itself look bigger and thus more intimidating, the tail should be longer, and its position in general looks awkward.

I also don’t like the lack of color variety. It’s all just purple and red, which does not match other red dragons who are more red orange or brown. The horns and belly, which are usually a tan cartilage, are also this color so there is no variety and all looks the same. It’s hard to pick individual details like eyes or claws.

For a big red dragon, I think Balagos is better. He looks cleaner. The details are better done, especially how old he looks, a testament to his centuries of life. He truly looks ancient.

The CRD looks like a model from a old video game, like the dragon from Dungeon Siege in fact. It just doesn’t look as good as it could.

What do you think?

I had an idea for a puzzle room.

There is a vault at the end of a long dark hallway, and next to the vault are two iron golems. The golems only move in the light. This puzzle is also for low level players, so that simply slaying the golems is a dangerous way to go.

I don’t know anything else though. I had an idea that failing the puzzle makes the lights flicker on, and make the golems approach several hexes before the lights flicker off again. Meaning each wrong move brings you closer to being attacked by monsters way above your power level.

I just do not know what the puzzle is. It has to be something easy in the light, but hard in darkness. Any ideas?
