Nerves

What's the best way to combat nerves as a rookie? I don't feel nerves 95% of the time, so I don't know what to do when I feel it the 5% of the time and it really messes with me. Usually its when I have family watching me or its an intense game such as playoffs or against a rival team.

I've definitely had a knees weak, arms are heavy he's NERVOUS kind of moment... or two...

Looking for rookie league/low level guidance - Defenseman

Hey all! I've been playing about a year now and I'm starting to develop enough skill to start outplaying other players in my rookie league and I've become one of the stronger skaters. There's tons of video content about high level hockey, but what are some good tips for lower level play to have a larger impact? Some specific questions:

  1. As a defenseman, if you can't pass it up because your team won't catch it (or instantly lose it) and your other D can't backcheck, what should you do?

  2. It can be really, really hard to deal with 3 on 1 rushes as the (often) sole defenseman. I'm letting the goalie take the shot while I cover the pass/excess players, what else can I do?

  3. Is it sometimes worth the risk to try and just rush it up myself knowing that there may be a gap?

Any other info or ideas are greatly appreciated, these are some that have come up recently that have been on my mind and while I won't be in rookie league forever I want to be able to excel in this level while I work on moving up. Thanks for the feedback!
