New Skates?

I currently have the Bauer M50 Pros, and they are getting small. I am choosing between the new Supreme F50 Pro, the Vapor Flypro, and the Supreme Shadows. I might go with the Supreme Shadows because they are on a huge discount rn. What do you guys think?

Mixing roller and ice

I live in an area where ice time is hard to find. It’s mostly in the middle of the day and costs 10 dollars per public skate, with sessions often being full of people and ice degrading fast. Stick and puck is worse, being 15-20 dollars, and only 2-3 times a week at my local rink.

I am a casual, not in a league but just like to skate and play pick-up. I don’t have the skill for more formal organized games quite yet.

To mitigate this Ive been considering getting in lines. We have free outdoor roller rinks in my area, so I could do stick and pucks and skate as much as I want at convenient hours.

I would go on the ice 1-2 times a week just to do edge work.

My concern is losing my ice skating abilities. I’ve heard roller blading is a bit easier and doesn’t really include any edge work which is imo the main deal when refining your skating. Any input? I don’t want to purchase in lines if it’ll be bad in the long run

Stick and puck

I can skate well enough but have never been to a stick and puck. What should I work on? Sorry if that’s a bit of a stupid question.

With skating I had very particular edge work drills I would do, but working with a stick seems like it’s much more versatile

Best places to buy hockey sticks?

New to hockey. Needing a better stick for stick and pucks.

I’m looking for a stick that is going to last. I’d like to spend less than $150.

Sooo how did I do a curving shot?

Edit: I don't actually want to learn to do this on purpose. It's a why it happened and how do I not do it again.

So the other night at a pickup game I took a shot from around the hashmarks. I usually use an older style sweeping wrister technique. The puck was going top right corner. Except it didn't. Somehow I managed to put around 8 inches of sideways break on the puck like a baseball pitcher would do with a sweeper.

I thought I was crazy until a friend commented on it unprompted, as did my friend who I was actually shooting on.

My only thought is that I shoot right handed, had a fresh tape job from toe to heel, and covered it with a copious amount of the sticky Yew wax. Perhaps I gave it enough right hand spin through all of that to give it that right break?

I just know I'm not good enough to do it on purpose 😂

Built a stickhandling app for my 15yo son. Need 25 testers to help try and break it (Free Elite membership for life if you do).

Note: I messaged the mods a few days ago but I haven't heard back yet. I'm just looking for 25 hockey players to help me test an app I built for my hockey-playing son.

Hi HockeyPlayers,

I'm looking for 25 players/coaches/parents to help me test an app I built for my son to work on his stick handling. He's been using it for about a year and his coach convinced me to tidy it up and release it on Apple/Google.

For those that help test it, you'll initially get 3 months free on the Elite subscription and after that, I'll change it to expire in the year 2099... should be enough time for you to get to the NHL :)

If you want to be one of the 25 initial testers, DM me and let me know, or leave a comment below and I'll message you with the details. It'll be first-come-first-served.

You can check out the app details and what it looks like at https://hockeytastic.com

UPDATE: Thanks for all the replies. I'm working on the App Store external testers at the moment. It's tricky. I'll have it done later today though. To all of you that have DM'd or replied below, I'll definitely be in touch. Thanks

Mick

UPDATE 2: Holy Hockeytastic Batman! Group 1 is officially locked in! I’ve reached out to the first 25 people who got in touch to get them set up for the initial run.

If you missed out on this first batch, don’t worry! I’m treating this initial group as a quick smoke-test to squash any immediate bugs. Once Group 1 gives the green light, I’ll be opening up a larger Group 2 Beta.

Thank you all so much for the massive support... stay tuned for the Group 2 announcement soon! 🏒

True skate deal in Canada.

If anyone looks for a steal of a deal on some new skates, was in sportchek today and they had True 9x4 senior skates on for $388 in store. I'm located in Saskatchewan, not sure if it's at all sportcheks but for that price figured it was worth posting.

Any tips on how I could fix my shot?

I started playing hockey about 2.5 years ago and I’ve been stuck on C for 3 seasons. I’m going into my first year of Bantams and my goal is to make Bantam A. I know for a fact that there’s a huge jump between Pewee C and Bantam A, but my last season, I feel like I shouldn’t have been on C just because of how much I dominated (Not trying to sound cocky, just trying to explain my situation a bit more). I also know that my shot isn’t the most important thing for Bantam A but it’s something that’ll help get the evaluators attentions. Do you guys have any tips on how to get more power into my shot? Or just any tips in general?

Edit #1: Thank you all for the tips, I’ll definitely try everything and let you guys know how it goes after tryouts

EZ-Goal Hockey Net Discontinued?

Hi all.
I’m looking to buy a hockey net for garage/outside use with an extra netting around it for shooting practice. I’ve seen good reviews of the EZ-goal set up and appreciate that it folds up. However, I can’t find it in stock anywhere in Canada. Has anyone bought this recently or know if it’s been discontinued?

Also does anyone have any alternative recommendations. Foldable would be great but it doesn’t seem common. Would also like the extra netting around the net and for it to be able to withstand pucks not just street hockey balls.

Thanks in advance!

Can someone help me decipher the stick?

Bought a Bauer Nexus’s Sync pro stock refurbished hockey stick from a Integral hockey dealer Off Facebook marketplace. Used the stick a couple of times I like it. But when I went to a hockey shop and held a Retail Bauer sync it felt different and weight was a little heavier then mine was just wondering if it’s a Bauer sync or a different stick that’s just dressed as Bauer sync

Possible abs replacement blade?

Hey guys recently found my childhood street hockey stick and was curious is it possible to use one of those abs blades you glue in? I got this when I was about 8 so im not too sure if its a 1 or 2 peice. Once it broke I had one of the mylec screw in blades but was hoping for something a little more durable less flimsy. This would be casual roller/messing around in drive way. Thanks guys

Anyone else feel like hockey reveals who you really are as a person

Started thinking about this after a game last night. On the ice, I noticed I'm way more cautious than I thought I was ,get scared under pressure, turn to the boards instead of making a play, always play it safe. Meanwhile some guys on my team are fearless, pinching in, taking risks, making things happen. It got me thinking hockey really exposes your personality, good and bad low confidence shows up when you're pressured. Being risk-averse? Yeah that shows too and I realized I actually enjoy being annoying in front of the net, fighting for space with bigger guys. I didn't know that about myself before I started playing.😂😂😂It's kind of cool though if you can work on your mental game on the ice, it carries over into real life too.Anyone else notice this about themselves?

What level of hockey would this be for where you are?

I went to see a few buddies play yesterday, I didn't think E level would be this good, lol.

They started their team and played in ASHL E division, last time I watched them they weren't skating like this.

But yesterday when I watched them, I could not believe this is E level,

Everyone was fast, almost everyone could do the 10 & 2, and can stop really quickly

I'm asking because another buddy is putting a team to join some nearby tournaments and he said it'd be like E level. If everyone played like these guys, I'd be a little concerned about our skill level, lol

What does it look like to you?

Long term IR

Injuries have caught up to me and unfortunately I can't play until December due to shoulder surgery so here's all my gear that I stare at at least once a day. Has anyone else had their labrum repaired and how was the return to sport for beer league?

Experimenting with a 3/4 skate sharpening review

My entire hockey life I've always got my skates sharpened to 1/2 hollow, I've never asked for anything different and the local spot i go to, the man who's been doing my skates for 35+ years always says "i give the standard 1/2 hollow unless someone requests something different"

So when i played growing up i hated freshly sharpened skates and i can vividly remember dulling them on the bench gate step and my parents would be furious with me but i never knew why i preferred "blunt skates" then i stopped playing hockey for almost 15 years and since coming back and being up 50lbs i've still been getting the same old 1/2 standard cut at the shop and i've recently been reading more about different hollows - glide vs grip; so i figured 'why not try out something different' given it seems like i'm skating harder but i'm moving in mud since returning a few months back.

I went to the same shop for my monthly skate sharpen and i asked for an 11/16 cut but they didn't have the wheel atm so i asked for an 3/4 hollow and went on my merry way. Later when i was packing my hockey bag before my weekly Friday skate i was running my fingers on the blades and was shocked as to how blunt they felt compared to after the standard 1/2 cut that i've been getting my entire life, i mean i knew they would be more blunt but started to think i maybe i made a mistake and was a little worried i'd be falling down all over the ice at the skate, so i was kinda skeptical to say the least but when i first stepped on the ice - wow! what a difference! I did a hard lap and immediately noticed WAY more glide, turns still felt good and stopping was no issue but the speed and effort to get around the rink was VERY noticeable, the only thing i'd say felt a little off were my crossovers and my shifting balance for shooting so that may take more of an adjustment period but still i was quiet impressed and happy i tried it, it's summer now as well so i'm going stick with the 3/4 cut for a few more weeks and see how the adjustment goes.

10/10 highly recommend and worth a shot for someone who wants to experiment and try out something new.

Custom Goalie Mask Airbrush

My name is Charles Forino. Currently I'm a goalie playing juniors hockey in NJ, but I'm also the creator of LastLineDesign goalie masks. We are a goalie mask painting business that recently started up this summer, but personally I've been painting masks for almost 4 years now so any design you can think of, I can paint. I started painting because I simply ran out of helmets to paint and I wanted to share my gift with the world. Although we've only been around for a short amount of time we have had great success painting various helmets around the U.S. If you're looking to get anything custom airbrushed feel free to check out our website to learn more: LastLineDesign.com. Or you can check out our Instagram u/LastLineDesign. Everything you need to know can be found on our website and if you have any questions please reach out to me either through Instagram or our website.

Reebok 520 pro stock worth upgrading to hp45?

I have some hurricane pro stock 520s that I’ve had for quite a while. Wondering if it’s worth it to upgrade them. They’re comfortable and in good condition but I imagine newer pants are significantly lighter. Was looking at the hp45 or hptkxp

Houston Leagues?

Hi yall, just recently moved to houston and hoping to join the beer league scene this summer while I wait for grad school to start. I played AAA and varsity growing up but obviously as it’s been a few years I’m more washed, are there any rinks with different levels of beer I could join and if there are any yall recommend how would I go about joining them? I know from where I’m from it was more work trying to find captains or people on teams already and joining through word of mouth instead of just clicking a sign up link online which is why I ask. Thank yall so much!
