Another Profiling Post

I am a late forties beer league player skating on 5 year old vapor 3x skates. I got back into hockey about 6 years ago when my son started playing travel. I played as a kid, through high school and some college club. Back when I played I just had the guy/kid at the rink run them through the sharpener and didnt care to pay attention to whether it was being done right. So my steel looked heavily rockered, like a banana lol. But i was used to that and always felt like i could accelerate fast, be pretty agile and make quick stops and starts. Fast forward to 5 years ago and I bought the vapors and instantly it felt like there was just “too much” steel and it was getting in the way. I still feel like that from time to time now even though I have been on them for 5 yrs.

With that in mind I have been reading about profiling and watching some youtube videos. Does anyone have any thoughts on what type of profile I could try based on my concerns above?

Im 5’10”, 155, play forward, and currently use a 9/16” hollow.

Punching out skates - Long Island

Hi, I live on Long Island and wanted to know if anyone else is from the area and knows where I could go to have my skates punched out. I have very flat feet and bad bunions on both feet.

I think my feet are getting worse because I got on the ice for the first time yesterday since June and it was really painful. I had to do a bunch of walking around the rink and thats where it was a really bad. Bunion on my right foot was rubbing right into the side of my skate and not I have a hot spot. I say its getting worse because even up until June I have never had pain like this skating or walking around in my skates. Some discomfort but not this bad.

I skate in vapor 3x’s that are probably 5 years old now. I have superfeet yellow insoles in them to help with my flat feet.

Swim Briefs Poll

Want to know how many guys are rocking swim briefs now. My wife likes them on me and so I wear them around her. But I want to see what the demographics are for guys who are wearing them. Im in the US and clearly no one around here rocks them unless they are like 75 in Miami or gay. I recently discovered swim briefs from Todd Sanfield and I like them but clearly I would get strange looks if I wore them to the beach.

So if you do let us know your age and country, and if you dont mind sharing gay or straight.

I’ll go first 47/M/US (NY)/straight and married.

Edit: wow never expected to get this big of a response. Thanks everyone!!

Pain on Inside of Knee from Squatting

About a year ago I think I strained the muscle on the inside of my right thigh just above my knee. See red arrow hahaha. I was squatting and it was tight and then felt really painful. Like an idiot i worked through it and kept working out on an ongoing basis. when i would sit for long periods, particularly driving, it would flare up and kill. Throbbing pain. It eventually went away this past Fall and I went back to lower body lifting and squatting this winter and throughout this entire spring. Then a couple months ago it happened again. I stopped mid workout and didnt squat for about month. Luckily it wasnt as bad and seemed to go away relatively quickly and not nearly the pain i had when sitting like the first time.

Well low and behold I went to squat today and I could feel it getting tight with some mild pain. I stopped and skipped the squats today.

Has anyone ever experienced this before? Never in all my years of squatting has this been an issue and now I am actually hesitant every time I squat for fear of this happening. Not looking for medical advice at all. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue and maybe I need to focus on some sort of better movement pattern or warmup??

Deadlifts - Yay or Nay

Curious how many of you have deadlifts in your programming?

Here is my issue, im 46(m) , work a desk job that has me sitting all day nonstop, and im tall, lanky, have long legs and arms and my back is always iffy from bad posture and sitting. I dont know how many times I have gone into a day with deadlifts and after sitting all day I jump into it and sure enough I tweak my back which knocks me out of training for days and causes me to hesitate about lifting.

Im thinking about just not doing them anymore and maybe throwing in some RDLs and heavy KB swings as a supplemental exercise.

Just wanted some opinions.

Keppi Fitness - Damaged and No Response

I am so annoyed that I ordered through Keppi Fitness to save a few bucks. I ordered the 5000 series adjustable bench a couple weeks ago. When I received the package the box had a huge hole in the front. The damage clearly was an issue because when I unpacked it the middle pad had a hole right through one of the sides. Unfortunately the issues didnt stop there. When I went to put the leg attachment together it appears that one of the pieces that was welded onto the main leg attachment was done i correctly and so I cant insert one of the tubes through the main part.

I emailed them immediately with pictures asking for a solution and they have not responded at all despite a follow up. Its been over a week with radio silence. Of course now I am seeing other posts with people complaining about customer service and QC.

My Garage Gym

Well here is my dingy set up in the garage lol. As you can see my stuff is mixed in with typical kids stuff and holiday decorations hahahaha. I really need to reorganize everything but it gets the job done. Recent additions are the keppi adjustable bench, titan sled and goruck weight vest. Ive got some additional kettlebells and dumbbells strewn around the garage too. Always jealous of you guys that have indoor home gyms. This garage isnt insulated so winters are freezing in there and summers are really hot.

Newbie - General Program Advice

Hi all, Ive been lurking this sub for the last couple months and interested in trying out TB. I bit the bullet and bought TB I and TB II a couple weeks ago and just finished up reading them. I am completely intrigued but had some questions I was hoping I could get feedback on.

First, a bit about me. I am 46(m) and a lawyer by day, so i sit at a desk for 85% of my day and have unpredictable hours. I play ice hockey once a week. Currently, I am 5’10 and about 155-157 lbs. My entire life I have been lanky and skinny weighing around 145lbs. I have two young kids, one who plays travel ice hockey and Ill be going back to coaching this Fall and Winter.

I did crossfit for a number of years up until my first kid was born in 2014. Stopped working out for a couple years and then my second was born. Decided to get into triathlons in 2016 and did that for three years culminating in a half-iron distance race towards the end of 2019. Covid hit and I stopped training other than some occasional bs.

About a year or so ago I decided I wanted to bulk up and focus on weight training. I ran strong lifts, greyskull lp and most recently 5/3/1 but inconsistency and injuries plagued me so I havent really made huge progress in lift numbers. However over the last 6 months I have made some real progress and I am now 155-157 lbs and gained some real muscle mass.

I read the books and know I am supposed to run an 8 week building block before switching to continuation - I was contemplating zulu/ black. So here is my issue and question. I really enjoy strength training right now given the progress I have been making and would really just like to keep going and dont want to lose momentum there for the base building. also I just have no idea if I really have the time to fit all of the strength and conditioning work in given my work schedule and then my son’s travel hockey schedule coming up soon.

On page 48 of TBII KB mentions a variation for Black Protocol focusing on strength. For Block 1 he says to do only the first 5 weeks and do “strength training” 3x week instead of SE. Should I be running Operator for those 5 weeks? And then after those 5 weeks do I switch to my intended program of running Zulu/Black?

Finally, does anyone incorporate sled pushes into their training? If so, where do you typically fit those in and would they be considered HIC?

Thanks!

Is an adjustable bench necessary?

Hey all I currently have a flat bench in my home gym and I was looking at maybe getting an adjustable bench from Major Fitness. Its pretty affordable at only $220. Right now if i need to do incline dumbbell bench press i typically stack some bumper plates and prop my flat bench on it. It gets the job done but seems less than ideal. Also it doesnt allow me to do some additional lifts that would otherwise need an angled or upright bench.

Any thoughts? Am I missing out on a lot by not having one or is just a “nice to have”. Also is flat benching still comfortable on an adjustable bench because I would probably have to ditch my flat bench if I got one as i dont have a ton of room in my garage.

Edit: thanks for all the responses. I ended up ordering the Keppi 5000 based on reviews in different subs.

Todd Sanfield Sales

Anyone know of they tend to run sales around father’s day? I recently bought some of the polymide briefs from the warehouse sale to tryout and these are now hands down my favorite. I just want some plain black but $34 a pair is a bit steep for me.

Leaf Blower - 615 enough?

Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times. I am a small piece of property and have a lawn crew that does the yard each week. Only thing is they come early in the week so by the weekend my paver patio and yard typically have some debris on it. I dont need anything crazy powerful just enough to blow over the patio, porches, driveway and front walk here and there. Is the 615 enough. Ace has it for $169 and the 670 for $219. Is the $50 extra worth it to just get the 670?

Alternatives while Healing

I posted yesterday about potentially reinjuring my leg and asking what I should focus on in the meantime while healing again. Unfortunately my post was locked because mods thought I was asking for medical advice - which I wasnt.

I am running 5/3/1 BBB and now that I cant squat Id like to know what others think I could focus on in the meantime. Should I just run the upper body portion of my 5/3/1 program or maybe just take a pause from it entirely and do some upper body work?

Has anyone dealt with a quad injury and still been able to do things like deadlifts or other lower body lifts - dont want to make it worse.

Beyond Bummed

About a year ago I strained the muscles on the inside of my right thigh just above my knee. Would post a picture but dont think we are allowed to in this sub. I believe I strained it squatting and it was an odd injury. It was tight when squatting and when i would sit for long periods, particularly driving, it would flare up and kill. Throbbing pain. It eventually went away this passed Fall and I went back to lower body lifting and squatting this winter and throughout this entire spring.

Well today I decided to hit my squat day for the 5/3/1 program. I get into my first working set not even that heavy and as Im coming up from the first rep I notice that same muscle feels really tight but like and idiot I pushed and sure enough it felt like it popped. I immediately stopped and now its killing me.

I am so bummed out because I have been making such good progress the past two months in my training and now I cant squat.

Has anyone ever strained this area (inside of quad) before squatting? Any ideas on what I should focus on while I am not healing again for God knows how long?

Had my driveway redone and widened a few years back. I am guessing they didnt do a great job with the apron and the edge cracked apart. Any thoughts on how I should go about fixing this myself? Unfortunately the company that seals my asphalt driveway doesnt do concrete work and so Im stuck doing something myself. Thanks!!

I got an oil change today at a local shop and after I left the shop I realized that the prompt to rest oil life was on and the shop didnt do it properly. I tried putting the vehicle in run with ignition off and holding “ok” as ler the instructions on the display panel but that didnt work. I also searched google and you tube and tried putting the vehicle in run with ignition off and pressing the accelerator 5 times but that didnt work either.

Any ideas? Really dont want to go to a dealer for this.
