Can I write a black character with different toned skin graphs?

I’m writing a black character that lives in a post-nuclear fallout setting and got in a close call with a nuclear breakdown, leading to skin damage. So, parts of his skin need to be replaced every now and then. Due to the setting, the procedures are rough and done with whatever’s around, so each new graft is a different tone of brown or black, giving him a patchy appearance. I thought it made him look pretty cool, but I do not want to be offensive or insensitive. As I am not Black, I wanted to get some feedback on this. Am I overthinking, or is this character design a problem?

(Sorry the drawing is rough it is not finished yet)
