There was a big spark when it exploded in the gap between the adapter and the laptop cable, like in the picture.
My laptop charger adapter suddenly sparked and made a exploding sound where the adapter connects to the charging cable that goes to the computer. After that, I noticed a burnt smell, although the adapter still looks normal from the outside.
At the same time, the power cord that plugs into the wall outlet was cracked, so the service center replaced that cord with a new one.
After hearing my explanation, they tested my old adapter using the new replacement power cord. Everything seemed normal: no strange smell, no sparks, and the laptop charged properly. Because of that, the staff seemed confident that I could continue using the old adapter with the new cord.
However, I am still very hesitant because there was already a spark and burning smell earlier. I have even placed a deposit for a brand-new charger already.
My question:
Would it be safe to continue using the old adapter with the new cord, or should I just buy a completely new adapter for safety?
If possible, could someone estimate:
% chance of safety risk (fire/shock/another failure)
% charger lifespan already reduced after this incident
% chance it could damage the laptop/battery/motherboard if I keep using it
I’d really appreciate advice, especially from anyone.
