I May Have Just Bricked my 4TB SSD on the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+

I’m hoping someone here has seen this before because I’m completely stuck.

Hardware:
MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ (latest BIOS)
WD_BLACK SN7100 4TB
Cloned from the factory SSD using Macrium Reflect
The clone went perfectly. The handheld booted and ran Windows without any issues.
I was trying to troubleshoot the “Failed Attestation” error that was preventing me from playing Call of Duty online, so I went into MSI Click BIOS and enabled Security → User Password.

After saving and rebooting, the handheld never booted into Windows again. Now every startup does the same thing (see attached photo): MSI logo, Immediately followed by a blue firmware box that only displays “WD_BLACK SN7100 4TB”

That’s it. No password prompt, no cursor, no instructions. It just hangs there indefinitely. I cannot even get to the BIOS in this loop on this SSD.

If I remove the SN7100, the Claw boots straight into BIOS with no issues. I reset the BIOS to factory defaults, but the problem comes right back as soon as I reinstall the SSD.

What I’ve tried:

Reset BIOS to defaults
Disabled Fast Boot
Verified Intel VMD is disabled
I also installed the drive in my desktop to test it:
BIOS detects the SN7100 by name.
Windows doesn’t see it at all.
WD Dashboard detects the drive, but every function is disabled.
So the controller seems to be alive, but the drive is basically unusable.

A handful of questions:

  1. Has anyone seen the Claw BIOS get an NVMe drive stuck in a security/password state?
  2. Does this sound like a hidden or broken NVMe password prompt?
  3. Is there any recovery procedure for something like this
  4. Has anyone recovered a WD SN7100 after this happened?

I’ve opened (or will be opening) tickets with both MSI and Western Digital, but I figured I’d ask here in case someone has run into this before.

For now I’m back on the original factory SSD. 😩

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

M.2 "not present" after extra SSD install

Hi guys,

I've been having a big issue with my pc. I'm fairly new to pc building and I can't seem to solve this issue. First things first, here is my setup:
- MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
- Ryzen 7 5700X

- Kingston A2000 M.2 nvme
- Gigabyte Radeon RX 9060XT

I wanted more storage and bought a Crucial MX500 SSD to install in one of my two left over SATA ports. At first i made the mistake of plugging in it in port 5 or 6, which should be disabled if the M.2 slot is occupied. To do this I had to remove the GPU aswell. After turning the pc back on it gave me a blue screen with recovery recommended with an errorcode: 0xc000000e.

After finding out the port is disabled i put it in sata 2 and it still wouldnt boot anymore. In my bios the bootmanager drive was now sata3, which contains a HDD for randomfiles. Ive tried CMOS resets, reseating of the M.2. The drive works in my brothers PC so that should not be the issue.

After a while i just decided to clone the A2000 onto the MX500 and use that as the bootdrive because i just feel the slot in my motherboard broke. I still can't really think of something that broke the slot, I mightve been a bit forcefull with removing the GPU against the board but nothing actually heavy or something. The cloning did not work either. It shows my drive in sata 3 but doesnt see it as a boot option.

I have absolutely no idea what to do anymore. Im thinking of buying a M.2 adapter and use it outside of the M.2 slot for now but I dont have time to get one and I want it to get to work ASAP.

Any help is appreciated!

EDIT: I did a bios update to the newest version aswell as a firmware update on the A2000.

MSI Stealth 16 B3W 2026 RTX 5080 Benchmark & Ask me anything

Hello everyone !

This was my first time ever using MSI laptop here is latest version from Thailand, This probably really early device pair with RTX 5080 and Ram Memory 16 GB (Thailand had 16gb not 32 gb). all comprehensive spec I think can found in their website.

The benchmark with cyberpunk native 2k screen set everything to max I got FPS around 55~60 fps ( no framegen , no up scale raw power)

With really max TGP at 122 Watts from 125.

Speaker I think it can be call as on good ok but sure cannot compare to my MacBook 16.

But it really can call as ok and good.

However right now I notice weird jitter from laptop speaker.

Like audio processing was broken some kind.

Is this bug ?

Quality material I think we can call this as good it light.

Screen was good too.

But for some game like where wind meet it really lagging look like wattage stuck around 40 - 70 watts only.

.

Mount and Blade Banner Lord was holy smooth at default setting 180 fps everything max.

.

Keyboard backlight was bright and crisp.

Trackpad was big smooth look good premium but can heard some crank wobble ?

.

Feel free to asking anything!

.

Oh ! Laptop GPU was very cool it was max at 70 ~ 75 Celsius even though 125 watts running !!

So this probably new landmark of MSI ?

I heard many people said that MSI likely to melt itself all the time 🤣🤣🤣

rgb issues with msi aio :(

hello all!!! looking for a little bit of help because whatever i try to do this aio (msi coreliquid a13 240mm) will not light up at all. Everything that I have currently tried includes:

1 - tried both 5v argb headers on the motherboard
2 - tried un-daisychaining the pump and fan 5v connectors and connecting them to both the argb headers on the motherboard
3 - looking in gigabyte’s rgb fusion and msi centre to try setting the pump and fan rgb

another notable thing that i should mention is that the fans and pump are working but the aio is unable to be recognised in any software that i use

any help with this would be greatly appreciated!! :3

CMOS draining too fast on MSI Motherboard

So I have an MSI b850 Gaming Plus Motherboard that was purchased 4 months ago. When I turn off my PC I always leave it unplugged due for safety. In around those 4 months my CMOS was drained to 2.760 V, and I kept checking it in HWiNFO for 3 days and it stuck there. So I replaced it with a new GP CMOS CR2302. Day 1 the voltage was 3.296, at day 2 the voltage is at 3.244, at day 3 the voltage is at 3.22, at day 4 the voltage became 3.196V. I dont know if this is normal for a newly bought battery, will it stop dropping for awhile at a certain voltage? My pc still remains unplugged when turned off.

MSI Raider 16 Max HX B2WH-004US OLED 16" Gaming Laptop Computer

I bought this about 2 weeks ago. I have it plugged into a 2k monitor and am playing the Adventures of Elliott (not a super graphically intense game). My cpu while playing is sitting around 97 degrees C, which seems fairly hot or above toasty for a laptop.

I have it lifted onto a cooling pad from amazon, so fans and airflow shouldn't be an issue.

Is this normal? I changed the user scenario to cooler boost on extreme performance and the cpu temp drops to ~80 degrees but the fans are running extremely fast and loudly to do that.

Any advice is welcome; if it's normal, I'll worry less.

System fans at full speed

HI all,

I have a MSI PRO A620M-E motherboard, I recently purchased an Asus ProArt PA401 Chassis. But the Fans are at full speed all the time. The physical chassis button is on auto, I've tried plugging the controller in both System fan 1 and 2 on the motherboard. The BIOS doesn't detect it, neither does the control center. I've tried a BIOS update as well. It went quiet for a bit then after a restart it went jet engine again. I generally sleep with my PC on but I can't even stand to sit by it. I'm using my laptop because it's unbearable. I'm about to move the parts back to the old chassis... Does anyone have any suggestion on what I could be overlooking? Here's to hoping it's something silly that I am overlooking.

Thanks in advance.

Intel High Definition DSP No Audio Error

I was updating my drivers, and somehow Windows Update also installed updates in the background. After restarting my laptop, I no longer have any audio.

I have tried most of the fixes I found online for this issue, but nothing has worked so far.

The laptop is an MSI Modern 15 B13. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it.

MSI 5080 Suprim not working

So a few things

I had this shipped and sold by Amazon. It was a signature delivery and when I opened the box I noticed the msi box does not have a seal. But it was inside an Amazon box.

I did not receive any accessories so I called msi support but it was closed until next week due to 4th of july.

So I called amazon. They told me the website on amazon shows no accessories only the gpu and quick service guide. 😑 which it did not come with.

Thr gpu looked good. It had the plastic peel and anti static bag.

I plugged it into my pc and it doesn't turn on. The fans do not spin and rgb does not light up. I get a black screen with no signal

I tried different display port and I reseated the gpu.

The pc worked fine when I had my 9070 xt.

Im almost positive the gpu is defective but wanted to see what everyone here thinks it might be. 🤔

It will not let me disable secure boot

I was playing a game and my computer just froze. When I finally managed to get it back up again, it said that there was a problem with a secure boot. I have been researching and trying to figure this out for the past hour. I have found the secure boot settings but I can't access any of them. I cannot enter advance mode. I've clicked f7 and it doesn't work. Every tutorial I found is on a completely different MSI click bios them me and for some damn reason I can't access anything else but the MSI click bios and I need help fixing this so I can actually play my games again

[Review] Vanguard vs Suprim

Hello, my fellow MSI enjoyers!

When I was in the market for a new GPU, I found very little information on the new Vanguard series. After using the 5080 Suprim and the 5090 Vanguard for a while, I would like to compare both models and share my thoughts.

[Performance] On paper, the Suprim is the better performer. It's clocked slightly higher than the Vanguard and I assume it has better binning. However, the performance difference is not something you will actually notice, in my opinion.

[Cooling] Tie. Both GPUs come with a very similar cooling design, including a vapor chamber. From what I understand, the main difference in the cooling solution is one less heat pipe on the Vanguard. I assume both the Suprim and the Vanguard would perform within a couple of degrees of each other in a controlled environment. The cooling solutions are both overkill for a 5080, and definitely enough for a 5090. The fan noise is about the same, in my experience.

[Build Quality] This is a clear win for the Suprim. It uses what seem to be higher quality materials and is noticeably heavier than the Vanguard. I haven't disassembled it, but I presume it has an additional metal cage for rigidity. Either way, if you use a GPU support bracket or a VGPU bracket, I doubt you will notice a difference. Just wear gloves when handling both of these to avoid fingerprints.

[Coil Whine] Tie. Coil whine is impossible to determine reliably, since it varies so much between samples. Additionally, people have a different tolerance to it and different PC cases as well. It's usually much more noticeable in a mesh case, for example. Regarding the two GPUs I have here with me - they have average coil whine. The Suprim is slightly less audible under load, but both are not bothersome in a closed panoramic case.

[Design] I'm going to give this win to the Vanguard. It's naturally subjective and in a vacuum, I'd say the Suprim is the more attractive card. However, I find that the Suprim's color scheme is neither here, nor there. It looks a bit off both in a black case, as well as in a white case. The Vanguard's design fits a wider range of aesthetics in my opinion.

[Alternatives, Pricing, Availability] The Suprim and the Vanguard are the best models within MSI's line-up and I think the price premium over the Gaming Trio and the Ventus is worth it. Addressing the elephant in the room, I know where pricing is at right now and how scarce availability is, especially in some regions. You know what the MSRP is and it is up to you whether you want to pay the current market price.

[Conclusion] Between the Vanguard and the Suprim, I think you should get what you can find / find at a better price. Real-world performance is close enough that I can comfortably recommend both.

Why do I get a blue screen for a second when waking my PC from sleep mode? It only happens the first time I wake it up each day; after that, the PC runs without any issues.

My MSI RTX 5070 Ti died after 9 months. Burnt PCB. Does anyone know why?

As the title says, I built this PC about 9 months ago with a brand-new RTX 5070 Ti. A few days ago, my PC suddenly shut down while sitting idle. The store I bought it from confirmed that the RTX 5070 Ti was the problem.

I sent the card to an MSI service center in my city, but they refused to honor the warranty and wouldn't repair it either. They didn't even tell me why it burned out.

Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this? I know the card is probably beyond repair, but I'd really like to know what happened so I can avoid the same issue in the future. T.T

My build:

  • GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16G inspire 3X OC
  • PSU: Thermaltake TOUGHPOWER GT 850W
  • Mobo: ASUS TUF Gaming B760M-PLUS wifi
  • CPU: Intel Core i5 14600KF

I used a Cooler Master Vertical GPU Mount Kit V3, but I removed it after about 2–3 months.
I used original PSU cables, no OC/undervolt.

System won’t boot after bios update because of boot loop - need help asap!

Hey everyone, I’m having an issue with my MSI B550 Pro VDH WiFi motherboard (with a Ryzen 5 3600). Before I updated the BIOS, it kept going in a boot loop, flashing to the BIOS for a few seconds, then restarting.

After updating the bios to the latest version using the bios flash button, nothing appeared on the screen, and the CPU light stayed on constantly. I couldn’t re-trigger the update, as the update light just kept blinking. I correctly formatted the usb’s (I tried both 3.0 and 2.0 16gb drives) and named the bios file MSI.ROM but it just wouldn’t work.

I also tried clearing the CMOS, but that didn’t work either.

I’m 100% sure there’s nothing wrong with my ram, cpu or gpu. But I’m not sure about my motherboard or psu.

I have an old 600W Cooler Master RS600 power supply, so I’m wondering if that could be the problem as well.

Has anyone else had this issue? How did I fix it? Or is my motherboard just dead? 😵

MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI - BIOS update

Hey all, first off I'm sure this gets asked alot but I came from a time where you did a BIOS update when that was the only option/fix left. After googling my Motherboard along with BIOS update every post says "Yes".

My version from what I can find on MSI's site is between March and May as I cannot find E7C91AMS.280 on the site, I found 281 but that was a beta.

Would it be worth updating if everything is going well with my PC, from what I can find online the version I'm on seems to be the most stable. But figured I'd ask and maybe learn something new.

Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT: Successfully updated BIOS, everything seems to have gone well.
