I’ve been running into a really frustrating issue with my monitor/display for almost a few months now and I’m not sure what’s causing it at this point.
Problem:
While using my computer (completely random scenarios - could be running something as admin, using a specific app, watching YouTube, or streaming), my screen will suddenly go black for a second and then come back on. Sometimes when it comes back, I notice weird visual artifacts - like a horizontal bar/tearing effect (in my case it shows up around the lower center of the screen).
What I’ve tried so far:
Reinstalled GPU drivers (used DDU to fully remove old drivers first)
Used the Ctrl + Shift + Windows + B reset command
Made sure Windows is fully up to date
Switched HDMI cables
Tried different ports on my GPU
I’m running dual monitors, tested with different configurations
Ran sfc /scannow and DISM restore commands
Ran GPU benchmarks - no visible artifacts or crashes during tests
Additional notes:
The issue seems completely random - there's no consistent trigger
Doesn’t seem tied to high GPU load
Happens across different apps and use cases
At this point I’m wondering if it could be a GPU issue, but the fact that the GPU I have installed is new (less than a year old - Asus TUF Gaming RTX 5070ti OC), and the benchmarks run fine is throwing me off.
Questions:
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Could this still be a failing GPU even if benchmarks look normal?
Any other troubleshooting steps I should try?
Appreciate any help - this one’s been driving me nuts.
Thanks!
