Has anyone had improvement in their ME symptoms from having a hysterectomy?

Hi lovely people,

I'm 46 and I'm scheduled for a total hysterectomy in around ten days for endometriosis, adenomyosis, enlarged uterus (equivalent to 17 weeks pregnancy) and fibroids. I used to have horrendous periods with terrible pain, but around eight months ago when I was put on the surgery waiting list my gyne prescribed me HRT for hot flushes and mood swings, and it has massively reduced both the amount of blood I lose as well as the pain for most of my periods since. I've had two laparoscopies in the past for the endo.

Given that the heavy bleeding was the main reason for the surgery, I'm having second thoughts about going ahead with it. CFS/ME-wise I'm moderate and wondering what other people's experiences have been with having a hysterectomy. Did it improve or worsen your symptoms? How was the recovery?

TLDR: Not sure whether to go ahead with hysterectomy due to improved gyne symptoms, wondering if CFS/ME symptoms might improve with surgery

HRT has made periods much lighter and now I'm having second thoughts about the surgery

Hi all,

I'm 46 and I'm scheduled for a total hysterectomy in around ten days for endometriosis, adenomyosis, enlarged uterus (equivalent to 17 weeks) and fibroids. I used to have horrendous periods with terrible pain, but around eight months ago when I was put on the surgery waiting list my gyne prescribed my HRT for hot flushes and mood swings, and it has massively reduced both the amount of blood I lose as well as the pain for most of my periods since (though not all, and my periods still last around 11 days). Given that the heavy bleeding was the main reason for the surgery, I'm having second thoughts about going ahead with it. I'm also largely housebound and sometimes bed bound with ME/CFS and I'd be interested to hear if anyone has any experience with a hysterectomy improving or worsening their symptoms.

Thanks for letting me vent! I truly don't know what to do. I worry that if I cancel, my uterus will give me the period from hell next month, but I'm also concerned that a hysterectomy will majorly unbalance my hormones even though I'm keeping my ovaries.

Edit: I've had two laparoscopies for endo
