Third eyelid issues and rude vet
Hi there, a few days ago i noticed my 6 year old otherwise healthy cat (spayed, short hair, female, 10lbs) had both third eyelids symmetrically visible. No redness or discharge. She is indoor/outdoor. I kept her inside, and besides seeming a bit stressed (vocal, a bit clingy) she hasn't really had other symptoms that I can see. I googled, read about Haws, decided to wait it out a couple of days, but then made a vet appt for the third day because i was getting stressed out.
I dont have a vet I like locally, I just haven't found a good fit, im a single mom so I go this vca place for affordability which is always fine until theres an actual issue...I took my cat in yesterday, brought a stool sample because I read it could be GI related, and both the vet and to a lesser degree the tech laughed at me for the stool sample and the vet was super dismissive of me saying what I was reading about haws etc. She quickly looked at my cat then ordered opthomology labs to get a consult over the phone. Before agreeing to pay I asked the tech to explain, she mentioned a lab for a scratched cornea and while I do understand needing yo rule things out, I think the dismissive attitude of the vet and the lack of acknowledgement of what I was saying led me to not trust them, and to me it seemed odd it would be a scratch with no discharge, in both eyes like that. The vet came back in and was super rude to me about asking, saying i was basically getting a free opthomology consult and again just dismissing me and with serious combative attitude. After calling her on it a little I agreed to just pay for it all.
They called me after the opthomologist called them back and explained it could be GI but because she has runny eyes and sneezing (she doesn't) the opthomologist highly believes it is herpes, i should do eye drops. If they dont resolve then I can bring her back in for a stool sample. I did express at that point to the employee who was apparently a supervisor that it was pretty frustrating I was dismissed and talked down to for bringing a stool sample when I was jusy trying to be thorough and turns out it wasnt so crazy after all! I let her know I wouldnt be going there for care anymore.
The real issue is now I dont trust they communicated well with the opthomologist. Her eyes have had no discharge. They look more irritated today after getting the drops they needed for diagnostics yesterday but they havent really been red before that. To be fair I havent seen her vomit or have diarrhea either. Its hard to monitor her stool because i have another cat, and she has been so so stressed about being locked inside, i have caved and let her out at times. The stool sample i collected i watched her poop and it was solid. So I dont know.
I'm getting freaked that it could be something else thats really bad and im just going to be wasting time doing drops for 4 days. I already wasted money, I dont have much to spare but dont want my cat to be suffering either. Thoughts?
