Thoughts on The Power Fantasy Vol. I and Death Vigil Vol. I
So, my first dive into non-Marvel/DC for the year. Very familiar with Gillen and Šejić, huge fan of both. I only know Caspar Wijngaard from Swan Songs.
Gillen's The Power Fantasy is a great take on >!ethics and morality. I found Etienne's character very intriguing, even if the archetype isn't all that uncommon in media. Masumi was the best for me.!< Overall, I found it a very refreshing read compared to my usual fare of superhero stuff.
I basically read Šejić's Death Vigil right after in the same day. I enjoyed it, but admittedly I felt everything was a tad too predictable. I liked the characters; I didn't get as attached as I wanted too. Still, it was a lighter read than The Power Fantasy and with gorgeous art, it made a good palate cleanser.
Am going to get the second volume for both books for sure. Anyway, would love to get everyone's thoughts on these. Please try not to spoil The Power Fantasy Vol. I and III. If you guys have recs, comment below!
