Aloha Cafe’s Komai’s Big Breakfast and Loco Moco
My wife recently tried Aloha Cafe’s Komai’s Big Breakfast the other day and just wanted to post it here since it was a ton of great, Hawaiian breakfast food for $15.50. I recall seeing a Portuguese sausage plate a month ago for like $21 that had maybe a fraction of the amount of food Aloha Cafe gives you. 2 slices of spam, 2 slices of Portuguese sausage, 2 Vienna sausages and a big portion of Hawaiian style corn beef hash which tasted just like how my Hawaii-born Mom makes it. Plus 2 scoops of rice, 2 eggs and 2 dinner rolls. She didn’t need a dinner after this lunch lol.
I got the loco moco since it was a lifting day for me. Always love their loco moco; tasty burger patty under 2 sunny side up eggs, 2 scoops of rice, 1 scoop of Mac salad and wonderfully flavorful brown gravy.
I oscillate between the loco moco and the kal b chicken/korean beef ribs.
As someone who grew up eating a lot of Hawaiian comfort food; both homemade meals and going to Hawaii where my Mom is from: this place is a true gem.
Their hours are the only frustrating part as they’re only open Thursday through Sunday with changing open hours (9am on Sundays, 10am or 10:30am on other days) and typically closing around 2-3pm. Unfortunately the owner’s husband passed away to cancer a few years ago so they shifted a lot of their business to catering and kept the dining room open during the late week/weekends.
But if you find yourself in Little Tokyo and craving delicious, Hawaiian comfort food at a reasonable price; this is your new spot.
