Where can I get a Monte Cristo?

Ever since I watched Shrek 2 and heard the mention of a Monte Cristo I have been craving one.
I have tried Moonlark’s Dinette on south broadway and West 11th street. No Monte Cristo (anymore).

I plan on going to other diners that may serve them but really have no clue. Anyone know a place?

Bonus: Breakfast platter and French toast from Moonlark’s Dinette. 7/10 (wish they had bigger portions).

LA birthday trip August 14-17. Where should I eat??

Hi everyone!

I’m flying down to LA for my 29th birthday. I just want to eat some really good food. Some things I definitely want: amazing sushi, Idli & dosa (iykyk), delicious tacos (carne asada, chicken, al pastor, carnitas). I’m not looking for like hyped up spots, I don’t care about aesthetics, I care about taste and texture😋

I would like to go to one bougie place for my bday dinner that’s actually worth the price. Yummy cocktails and bomb food. I always love a steak house but I had thought about Nobu (except everyone goes there now and I’ve heard it just okay.) I’d love like a luxury experience but like reasonable luxury lol.

Let me know!

The Hotdog place on Glendale Blvd outside Whole Foods & CVS (Silverlake)

I’ve been curious about this spot for a little while.

2508 Glendale Blvd - ish

It’s there Thursday thru Saturday or Sunday and actually had a great time ordering, waiting and eating the damn thing.

I realize my extra mayo order means that the dog is nearly visible and as someone for the UK I can claim to be a expert reviewer of hotdogs but I enjoyed it and was stoked to find this easy lunch spot!

Where should a party of two get a sit-down breakfast before going to the 12pm quarterfinal World Cup game on Friday 7/10 at SoFi?

We live in El Segundo and are seeking a fun and lively pre-game breakfast/brunch experience -- ideally near or in El Segundo or SoFi itself. We are not driving to the stadium (taking K line/shuttle). Where should be go?

Recent Eataly Experience

Like presumably everyone else here, I saw the one or two negative posts about Eataly last week. I was at Century City today and figured I’d stop in to take a walk around the market and maybe grab some stuff. At one of the stations I noticed a BUNCH of fruit flies all over the sandwiches sitting on the display boards and out of curiosity asked the young man how long they’d been sitting there. He gave me a look like he wasn’t supposed to say, gestured towards the camera behind him, then half-whispered “Probably since around 9am this morning, at the latest” and blinked at me. That told me everything I needed to know. My question is, HOW is this still being allowed? It actually frustrates me to no end. That place is legitimately disgusting. It also smelled like straight sewage in half of the store. I hope that other post was right and they get shut down. I will never be back.

The Destroyer LA [$$$$]

Lowk i think this might have been the best breakfast food I've had in LA. Great salads, fruits, pastries and breads.

  1. The blueberries were extremely juicy and the yogurt under them is perfect, not too tart, neither too sweet. There are also bits of licorice bark (?) in them that were absolutely amazing. I'm not sure what the smaller purple spheres were, but they were fruity and jelly like.

Blueberries

This was the chickpea salad. A delight to the eyes. The thing on top is a crispy cheese thing that was amazing. The chickpeas themselves sit in a base of tomato, bell peppers, onions and tangy spices - very flavorful. A huge win. There's also a chickpea patty like thing called a panisse that was delectable. The panisse was flavored, and tasted lightly salty, light and bready.

Chickpea panisse salad

The french toast was a standout dish. Now you might ask me how it's possible that a simple french toast could warrant special mention but it was so light, not that sweet (i think the bread was sourdough), the marmalade it was served with was delightful! I think it was peaches. and the mix between crisp edge and soft center was perfect.

French toast

This was possibly my favorite savory breakfast dish I've had thus far. It had gruyère and oats topped with puffed rice. Each spoonfull was so warm and comforting. The bottom of the bowl had black garlic which added a saltiness to it, but with very mild flavor. The herb on top and the warm oats + gruyère was unbeatable.

Black garlic and oats

The rye was good. Hints of chocolate which made me think that the color was from cocoa. The nuts were great - neither too soggy nor crisp. The jam it came with was a little strong. This dish packed a ton of weight for a simple bread service - was much heavier than i imagined.

Rye

This avocado confit with stracciatella was also very good and fantastic over the bread. there was a massive avocado under what you see and was strong and bursting with flavor. The salad was a little difficult to mix given that each ingredient was heavy, but tasted amazing nonetheless.

Avo confit

The coffee had rose water in it which I really liked. The coffee itself was ok - a little bitter for my taste. But the rose water came through and was pleasant. The coffee wasn't as sweet as one would imagine.

cardamom cloud latte

This almond croissant was a little dry. I wish there was more frangipane. The croissant was crispy nonetheless and i would get it again.

I did it. I had the best Pastrami in all of LA. It was freaking awesome.

A few days ago I asked you all what was the best Pastrami sandwich in all of LA. Everyone pretty much said Langers. Although Johnnie's and Canters were mentioned frequently too. So I took the subway from Hollywood to Mac Arthur Park around lunch time. It's a beautiful day today. Only encountered 1 crazy homeless person on the way. Which is really nice because usually it's more. Then I walked out onto Alvarado and right over to Langers. There was a long line. I was bummed at first but then found out it was only a 30 minute wait. The line moved pretty quickly. Then I sat down and ordered the Pastrami Sandwich Reuben style ($27), a side order of potato pancakes ($12), and a root beer ($5). No one warned me about the massive portions that this thing was going to be. But I took a small piece of the Pastrami meat out of the sandwich so I can taste and see what the big deal is about. Meat cloud heaven is the best way I describe it. Mild flavor thats so tender and a small fat layer that marbles when you chew. I knew this sandwich was going to be good. I prepared one half of the sandwich with the Russian dressing and the other half with yellow mustard. The rye bread was soft on the inside with a thin layer of crunch all around and aromatic with rye. The swiss cheese was perfectly melted. The sauerkraut was meaty and sour and delicious. The Russian dressing was sweet like candy. I only ate 1 half of the sandwich to start and 1 of the potato pancakes before getting the signal from my stomach that it was 100% full. I sipped on the root beer and took in the ambience. The old dark wood banisters, the old fake gold lights, the square white tiles with thick black borders. It reminded me of my grandmothers house when I was a child. And then a rush of happiness and fond memories of my grandmother came back. Then I got the other half of the sandwich to go with the other potato pancake. Keep in mind my eyes were saying eat it all now but I just couldn't. Although about 2 hours later I finished it off lol.

Best Pastrami Sandwich Ive ever had. No contest. But split a sandwich and fries/potato pancakes with a friend if you go. And yes this was pricey. It's a special occasion kind of thing. Also as of today, July 3, 2026, Mac Arthur Park (at least during the day) was beautiful and had regular people walking around.
