A boy with a fever who imagines adventures
I've been trying to identify a children's book or YN I read in Italy sometime between 1996 and 2001. The book may have been published earlier. I think it was a translated book, but I’m not sure.
Here's what I remember:
The protagonist was a young boy. He was at home in bed, and I'm fairly sure he had a fever.
His window was open and faced a street. He could hear sounds coming from outside.
The sounds seemed to trigger dreams, fantasies, or adventures. I vaguely remember him drifting off, experiencing fantastical adventures, then waking up and realizing he was still in bed with a fever.
The overall feeling was wonder and imagination rather than fear.
The setting was contemporary, not historical.
Things I'm not sure about:
It may have been a collection of stories, or it may have been one continuous story.
I vaguely remember a dragon or some green fantastical creature on the cover, but I don't trust this memory.
The illustrations may have been cartoonish rather than realistic.
TLDR: a boy with a fever in bed, a window overlooking the street, outside noises leading into dreamlike adventures, and a warm sense of wonder.
Does this ring a bell for anyone?
