Kahala Beach and Waialae country club.

Cape May is America’s oldest seaside resort. There’s a cute walking street with little shops as well as a number of examples of Victorian architecture throughout the town. The beach is only a few blocks from the walking street.

I suppose technically this is a church as it is a Friends meeting house of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), one of the many expressions of early religious freedom in America. Designed to reflect the Friends’ philosophy of simplicity and equality, the building hasn’t changed very much in its more than two centuries of continuous use (which is old, for America).

The architect was Quaker Owen Biddle, Jr. The land was deeded to the Quakers in 1701 initially for use as a burial ground by Quaker William Penn, after whom the state of Pennsylvania was named. One hundred years later (early 1800s), construction began. It’s situated in the old section of the city, as you might imagine.

The building was listed on the US Register of Historic Places in 1971. In 2011, it was declared a National Historic Landmark in recognition of the building’s existence as the only surviving documented work by Owen Biddle.

I held a number of employee meetings here for my organization, whose headquarters were nearby. The hard benches assured that people wouldn’t drag out the meetings with too many questions 😬

Always love seeing the sun rising: a new fresh perspective with the new day. Each one is different and the sky always changes so quickly!

This is one of the most serene and beautiful places I’ve ever been. The koi are huge—the cat was not successful! And yes, I rang the bell!

Lovely place to walk. The chickens (close-up in pic 8) are feral, and I believe them to be descendants of Red Junglefowl. This brood is probably a hybrid of some sort.

This building has spurts of being occupied and unoccupied. Most recently it was a print shop, I believe. It’s hard to keep a tenant here because the tiny parking lot floods like crazy. There are only spaces for about eight vehicles.

It’s fairly common in New Jersey to see little non-denominational churches like this because there are tax advantages when they are established.
They qualify for core tax exemptions, including local real property tax exemptions, state sales tax exemptions, and automatic corporate business income tax exemptions, regardless of their small size.

The signage at the roadside proclaims it’s a church. Otherwise, you’d never know!

This building operates as a Roman Catholic parish and was constructed in 1907 of limestone rock. This type of rock is native to the Midwestern US area and you’ll see older buildings made out of limestone. Eons ago, this part of the world was a great sea. Today, kids will delight in finding seashell fossils embedded in the rock. During the pioneer days, fence posts were also constructed out of limestone rock as trees were and still are in short supply in many areas of the Great Plains of the USA. I’m also attaching a couple of photos of the prairie (with no visible trees) for those who’ve never seen it.

Sunrise progression. I love the way the sky looks. I think it is singing an orange melody. Can the sky sing? Like a song, it doesn’t last very long!

Pic isn’t the best as it was shot from a moving car (no, I wasn’t driving). But this is a very historic church in Philadelphia and I wanted to share it as you can’t really tell it’s a church. And its history is interesting. This is the oldest Methodist church in continuous use in the US since 1796. It’s situated in the oldest section of the city, as you may well imagine. This area is called, appropriately enough, Old City. The city has grown around it; hence, the Speedline tracks just adjacent to jt.
