So we're not gonna tell anyone? (7.55 spoilers)

The world is ending (again) and the scions have reconvened as an organization to stop it.

But this time, they seem content to tackle the situation alone. And while Alphinaud and Einstinien are on the main quest, the others have separated to investigate and/or tend to their personal plotlines (i.e., Y'shtola and the gate to the void).

However, I didn't hear any plans to alert the masses. Maybe leader of nations with vast access to knowledge or resources. The unified nations of Eorzea appear blissfully unaware aside from the uptick in voidsent attacks. The Sharlayan nerds would only be too happy to assist. I suppose they could alert the nation's leaders while Evercold is happening, but nobody exlicited stated such is part of the plan. Maybe I just missed it somewhere, but Scions seem to be going solo.

What if FFXIV had something equivalent to WoW gold? (purchasing mogstation items/subscriptions with gil)

Preface to say I've never played WoW.

I heard recently you could purchase premium cash shop items or even a subscription with ingame currency, which blew my mind. Looking further into it, the amount of gold needed is expectedly high. You'd either passively earn that much gold to spend on a luxury item, or become a ravaging capitalist that seeks optimal income generation. I assume other deceitful methods would also proliferate like botting and auto-farming, but surely WoW has to contend with these issues yet still provides this service to this day.

What stops FFXIV from offering similar incentives? It would offer a pretty hefty gil sink.

Is it viable for Dark Knight to cast from HP in PvE?

With evolved mode that promises an increase in job individuality and skill expression, there's a non-zero chance that we might see Dark Knight have a couple of skills involve an HP cost like they do in PvP. Let's say the DRK had these skills during DMU prog, would DRKs having to damage themselves as part of their rotations reduce their viability? Should it just remain an MP cost?

Would player-casted slow-moving projectiles work?

In another game called Fellowship, one of the heroes can cast a projectile spell that slowly moves across the battlefield. WoW might have something similar. But I thought it was interesting. I know FFXIV doesn't have the best code and stuff, but maybe the projectile just has to make contact once to achieve its max effect (like a slow moving fireball). And if enemies can have them, why can't we?

Skill expression can come with knowing the fight. Maybe anticipating where the boss will move or when adds spawn, then precasting the projectile towards that direction.

Why aren't there jumping mechanics in combat?

Jumping generally isn't used in combat, at least in an intended way. You can never avoid attacks via jumping, and platform-based mechanics almost always allow a means to run to your destination, or inflicts a debuff that prevents you from jumping. Is it just too janky due to code sphagetti or whatnot?

Why don't we have channeled spells/skills?

To my knowledge, there's only one spell/skill in the game that's channeled (i.e., you stand in place and do a consistent stream of damage for the duration of the spell/skill), the MCH's flamethrower. I recall other MMOs having channeled spells like shooting a beam of ice or fire. Moving or getting stunned/silenced typically ends the channeled spell/skill prematurely. Is there a reason why FFXIV lacks these kind of abilities?

Do you think you'll prefer GCD or oGCD healing playstyle?

Part of the WHM evolved mode showcase was discussing a shift towards GCD healing. It remains to be seen whether the other healers will also see shifts, so the question focuses on comparing WHM evolved vs reborn mode or rather, GCD vs oGCD healing.

Do you think you'll prefer the hard-casting GCD healing (presumably limited oGCD healing, but allowing dps-neutral playstyle), or the current oGCD style healing (abundant oGCD skills to heal with, but GCD healing leads to loss of dps).

Is solo healer (and possibly replacing the healer with a third tank) ever viable for early raid progression?

I'm not a raider, just casually trying out the first floor of savage after a couple of weeks of gearing. But the vibe I get is that usually the heal checks are variable, but also predictable. Because some mechanics still divide players by supports and dps, replacing with a third tank is probably the most consistent choice, who could also use raid-wide mitigation skills as needed. But would it have ever been viable to have progressed with only one healer through early raid progression where folks are still gearing up?

What are cheese strategies that could be currently implemented if DRG had a 100% damage reduction jump as mentioned in the last Fan Fest?

At the last Fan Fest in California, they mentioned that it was likely not feasible to implement a 100% damage reduction for the DRG jump during the Evolved Mode showcase. I'm not a hardcore raider, so I'm unaware of how broken such a skill could be. I assume they'd still get whatever debuff coincides with the damage that was reduced. My first thoughts are that the DRG could solo a stack mechanic or sub for a positioned tank buster. But that would require coordination beyond the usual PF strats and is not really cheesy. Any better examples of how a DRG jump with 100% damage reduction might allow for cheese strats?
