Was his character accurately portrayed?

Don't get me wrong, I personally despise this character, but isn't that the point?

If they were going for a crazed, unstable fascist, ( which I assume they were) I think they may have actually succeeded.

The way he presented a sense of cool whilst being completely unhinged, the way he asserted control over everyone around him, and the way he veiwed himself and the Hightowers and disliked Targaereans, was genuinely engaging. But that's just my opinion. Perhaps

I would need to hear more varied points of veiw.

What do you guys think?

BTW, I'm talking about the show version of him, not the book version.

Also, I'm not comparing his character to the book version.

I'm asking about the character we saw on-screen

Despite everything, her love for her children is quite laudable

The funny thing about her bond with her children is that she never particularly desired a family when she was young.

Her children seemed to not only have changed her paradign, but ( in my opinion) contributed to making her

less reckless than she would've been without them.

As compared to people like Alicent, (who would willingly poison her own son,) I imagine Rhaeneyra would've surrendered early if one of her children were put at risk or taken hostage by the greens.

I was particularly touched by how she deigned to protect Rhaena even after realizing she was Sheepstealer's rider.

Was he the most deserving of the title?

(I'm talking about the title of Hand of the King)

How much do you think Otto loved his children and grandchildren?

Was it conforming to normal standards, or was it nonexistent altogether?

Did he see them more as tools?

If she had not died, would the dance still have taken place?

And if it did, would it have progressed to this point?

Would the Dance have occurred if they had not married?

Or would it have ended abruptly?

Is it possible that their friendship was engineered by Otto as well?

The friendship did seem genuine, but could he have convinced Alicent to befriend her to get closer to the crown, or did their friendship naturally develop?

Did she really love him?

I'm asking because she was manipulated by Otto into marrying him in the first place.

Did he truly want stability, or was he just ambitious?

Personally, I think it was the latter, but everyone I ask seems to disagree

If Rhaeneyra had accepted his offer, how do you think she would be remembered?

Would she be seen as a peacemaker, or as another "Queen who never was"?

If he had instead asked her to support Rhaenyra's claim, would she have done so?

Or would she still go along with the plot to put her son on the throne?

If it was publicly known that Rhaeneyra was to inherit the throne after Viserys, why did the Sept crown Aegon?

Was there some bias involved on their part?

If Jehearys chose her instead of holding the vote, would the dance have happened?

Also, would she have made a better Queen than Viserys?

Considering the circumstances surrounding her current rulership, is she getting judged too harshly?

As always I'm asking from a neutral standpoint.

If this man hadn't existed, would the Dance still have taken place?

Genuine question here. I'm asking because I'm hearing a lot of discourse around him from some of my friends.

BTW, I'm talking about him existing in his role as hand of the King.

Like, let's just assume Alicent had a different father, or that Otto never became Hand.

Which side has greater legitimacy?

Let's critically examine this without any personal bias.

Also, let's try not to attack individual characters more than is necessary.

What could this man have done differently?

Taking into consideration his deteriorating physical and mental state, does he deserve more praise for his desire to keep the realm afloat, or condemnation for all the questionable decisions he made?
