Судя по моей внешности. Как вы думаете, кто у меня парень или девушка?

I'm aroace. Why do I laugh at sexual jokes at first, and then suddenly feel disgust?

Sometimes something happens to me that is really hard to explain to other people.

I can genuinely laugh at a sexual joke. Not because I'm attracted to the topic itself, but because the joke might be unexpected, absurd, cleverly written, or delivered in a funny way. In that moment, I'm reacting to the humor—not to what the joke is actually about.

But then a few seconds pass. Sometimes even a minute. And it's like something switches inside me.

I suddenly process what was actually said. I stop seeing it as "just a joke" and fully realize what it's about. The laughter disappears, and a completely different feeling takes its place.

Disgust.

Not necessarily toward the people who made the joke. Not toward the person the joke is about. And not because the joke is about me. Most of the time it has absolutely nothing to do with me.

It's simply the topic itself that suddenly starts to feel deeply unpleasant.

Sometimes that feeling becomes so intense that I want to cry. And the strangest part is that only a few seconds earlier I was genuinely laughing. It almost feels like my own emotions are contradicting each other. It seems impossible that someone could laugh first and then almost immediately feel such strong disgust.

But these reactions don't actually cancel each other out.

Laughter can be a response to surprise, absurdity, clever wordplay, someone's delivery, or the overall comedic timing. The disgust comes later, when my brain stops reacting to the joke itself and starts processing its actual meaning. They're two different emotional responses that happen one after the other.

This is one of the hardest things to explain to other people.

From the outside, someone might think:

"If you laughed, then you must like those kinds of jokes."

Or:

"If they disgust you so much, why did you laugh in the first place?"

But human emotions aren't always that simple.

It's possible to laugh at how a joke is constructed while still feeling uncomfortable with its subject matter. One feeling doesn't invalidate the other.

For me, this isn't about pretending, trying to seem "proper," or contradicting myself. It's simply how my emotional response sometimes works. First I react to the humor itself, and only afterward to its meaning.

So when laughter turns into tears or intense disgust, it doesn't mean the laughter wasn't genuine.

It was.

And the feelings that came afterward are just as real.

Sometimes emotions don't arrive all at once. They unfold gradually. One comes first, then another. Even if it looks strange from the outside, it feels completely real from the inside.

And perhaps that's the most important part.

Experiences like this don't make someone hypocritical or irrational. They simply show how complex human emotions can be. We don't always fully process the meaning of something the very moment we react to it. Sometimes understanding comes later.

And with that understanding, completely different emotions can appear.

I'm curious whether there are any other aroace people here who experience something similar.

Has it ever happened to you that you genuinely laughed at a sexual joke, but then, a few seconds later, once you fully processed what it meant, your laughter suddenly turned into strong disgust—or even tears?

I'm not talking about jokes directed at you personally. I mean the topic itself.

I'd really like to know whether this is a common experience among other aroace people. If you've experienced something similar—or if your reaction is completely different—I'd love to hear about it.
