Advice to fighting an unfounded parking ticket to the bitter end
Hello fellow Oakvillians, I have a parking ticket question. A few weeks ago, one of the town’s dedicated soldiers was on important patrol and decided to give me a parking ticket for parking on my own property. I have of course disputed it but to absolutely no surprise they will not budge, so I’m looking to escalate this because this is a step too far. Below is a paragraph of context if anyone wants to read and give advice.
For context, I live in the uptown core area in a townhouse complex. The units are packed tightly together like sardines, as if the second largest country in the world has no space. I live with my mom who drives to work early every morning in downtown, and I work late hours at the airport.
Naturally me waking up at 7 am after getting home at 3 am to move the car from the driveway so she can leave the garage is not a solution. So what we do was dug a little strip in the grass next to the driveway an lined it with paving stones (which were destroyed by snow removal this past winter, but that’s another matter) and I have been parking here for the last five or so years. Remember we own our property, these are freehold townhomes. The dedicated soldier self righteously declared what I was doing was against the regime, and deposited a ticket.
Also, the neighbors around us who have done something similar, paved an extension to their driveway for the same space limiting reason, are more popular than the neighbors who have not. But they haven’t received any tickets, I went door to door to confirm. Most of the don’t even have any permits to do this to their property. So why am I the only one to get penalized by the regime?
My question for those of you who have read all this is, because I’m intending to push this as far as possible, how could I fight this at a hearing? I have never fought a ticket like this but I seriously believe that ticketing someone on their own property is wrong. How does a hearing work if anyone has experienced it? Is there even a chance I could win? Or is the regime stacked against us, so going against the dedicated soldiers is not an option? Any advice at all would be WONDERFUL!
