⚠️ WARNING: My Experience Renting at 1080 Glenashton Drive – Mice Videos Attached

I never thought I'd be writing a post like this, but I believe prospective tenants deserve to know about my experience before deciding whether to rent this property.
During my tenancy, I personally experienced a recurring mouse problem inside the home. This wasn't just hearing scratching in the walls—I personally saw mice running through the house. I'm attaching a video showing a live mouse running inside the home and another showing a mouse caught on a sticky trap.
I also found what I believed to be mouse droppings in multiple areas of the house, including near food packaging. Finding droppings and damaged food packaging made me constantly worry about cleanliness and contamination.
One of the worst parts was dealing with the smell after a mouse was caught. The odor made me feel immediately sick and triggered a migraine and nausea. Having to clean up after rodents was something I never expected when renting a home.
I recently drove past the property and noticed that the front yard appears overgrown, with weeds covering much of the lawn.
Everything I've shared here reflects my own personal experience and observations while living there, along with videos that I took. I'm posting this because I hope future tenants will inspect any property carefully, ask questions about maintenance and pest issues, and make an informed decision before signing a lease.

Disappointing customers at the Popeyes on Winston Churchill

I was at the Popeyes at Winston Churchill & Royal Windsor this afternoon and saw something that honestly left a bad taste in my mouth.

A group of teenagers walked in, went straight to the fountain machine, and started filling their water bottles with pop. The employees politely told them they couldn't do that without paying, but instead of just stopping they started laughing, mocking the staff, and asking things like, "Do you want to drink from my bottle and see what's in it?" They kept giving the only employee behind the counter, a young woman, a hard time. One of them even went back and tried filling his bottle again after being told to stop.

When they were leaving, it looked like most of them realized they'd crossed the line. Two of them offered to pay for the drinks, but the employee declined. Most of them said "Have a good day" on the way out, and it actually sounded like they meant it. Then one kid ruined it by yelling, "Go fuck yourself," as he walked out. Luckily I got this on the video.

The comment that stuck with me the most was one kid asking an employee, "Do you own the business? If not, why do you care?" That mentality is just wild to me. Employees don't have to own the place to care about people stealing. They're just doing their job, and if they ignore it they're the ones who could get in trouble.

People keep talking about how hard it is for young people to find jobs these days, especially entry-level jobs like this. But seeing some of these kids act like they're somehow above the people working those jobs was honestly disappointing. Oakville is known to be a pretty privileged place, so I wasn't expecting surprised to see this on a Sunday afternoon, but still this is a new low amongst everything I've seen in my life in this town.

Anyway, I wanted to give some credit to the staff. They stayed calm the whole time and handled it professionally, although this shouldn't have been part of their job.

Edit: Typo. I meant to say, “I wasn’t surprised to see this.” I was so upset writing the post that I fatfingered.

Immigrant families- can we talk?

Are there any immigrant Canadians here? I mean those like me who migrated 10-20yrs ago and have built a family here?.. if so, my question is - HOW ARE YOU GUYS DOING IT!! I'm talking about those like me who have minimal family support here (emotionally, physically and financially)... i personally am finding that juggling work, kids, house chores, etc is like this impossible trick that is just set to make you fail... like how am I supposed to do school drop off in the AM, give my all to work, but still have to leave early for school pickup, spend time with the kids enough to teach them to be decent human beings, do house chores, maintain friendship circles, go to the gym etc... back in our host countries in-house help was affordable but here its a significant expense..we do have a monthly cleaner which helps but thats a minute fraction of the overall workload.....families here are individualistic to a large extend so its not like my kids can easily do sleep overs to give me a breather...i feel like ive put my personal life on hold and im only give 20% to my needs (career, relationships, health etc) to be able to do all these and its exhausting physically and mentally... I know most Canadians have parents/in-laws that help out but a lot of us immigrants dont have that luxury unfortunately... im genuinely curious - how are you guys doing it and are there tips and tricks not to get burnt out and resentful of the beautiful life I have.... sorry if this comes across as a rant and forgive the spelling errors if any

The "Block" mansion on Lakeshore, aka "Ivory Manor" - Part 2

Seems like a lot of y'all hate these mansions lol. I found a better screenshot at the end of another visual tour video of Michael's house and asked AI to render the front with a proper view. Here's the result (gaudy statues and neon sign not included - cleverly hidden by trees lol)

Here's the video btw. Look closely on the left side at the start and end.

FYI - Michael Selim was the CEO of a company that integrated electronics into furniture in the 90s. His house 2 doors down at 2054 Lakeshore Rd. was built in 2008-ish and completed in 2011.

Check the last 2 images for how big the lot is.

Fine Line Tattoo recommendations

I’m thinking of getting my first tattoo and I’m a bit nervous. Does anyone have recommendations for tattoo artists in or around Oakville who specialize in fine line tattoos?

I’m looking at getting a small tattoo for around 3–5 cm and was thinking of placing it behind my ear since I want it to be pretty hidden or if you have any suggestions for placements. Also does anyone know roughly how much something like that would cost?

Thanks!

As we head into another week, here's a gentle reminder that accepting help is not a sign of weakness. It's one of the things that makes us human

Many of us find it much easier to help than to be helped.
We'll happily drive a friend to an appointment, bring someone a meal, lend an ear, or drop everything for a loved one who needs us. It feels natural to give. But when the roles are reversed, something changes.

We tell ourselves:
'I don't want to bother anyone."
"They have enough on their plate."
"I'll figure it out myself."
'I don't want to owe anyone."

Somewhere along the way, we started believing that needing help meant we had failed. It doesn't. The truth is, when we allow someone to help us, we're giving them a gift too.

Helping another person gives us a sense of purpose. It reminds us that we matter, that we can make a difference, that our presence has value. Think about how good it feels when you've been able to comfort a friend, support a neighbour, or simply make someone's difficult day a little easier.

Why would we want to deny someone else the opportunity to experience that same feeling? Community was never meant to be one-sided.

Sometimes we're the ones offering support. Other times, we're the ones who need it. Neither role makes us any less valuable. In fact, allowing others to help us strengthens the bonds that hold communities together.

So if someone offers you a hand this week, consider accepting it with gratitude instead of guilt. You don't have to earn kindness, and you don't have to repay every act of generosity. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give someone is allowing them the opportunity to make a difference in your life.

Wishing everyone a week filled with compassion, humility, and the reminder that we're not meant to carry life's burdens alone. Strong communities are built not just by people who are willing to help, but also by people who are willing to accept it.❤️

Leaseholder running a Hair salon business from home while working at a salon and does hair cut at home after work everyday

Hi everyone,
I’m renting a room in Ontario from a leaseholder (not the owner). I share kitchen and common spaces,

There are a few issues happening and I want advice on what I can do legally or practically:

  1. The leaseholder is running a barber business from the home
  2. Clients are coming in frequently and he shares our address publicly with customers
  3. The house gets regular customer traffic throughout the day
  4. My bedroom door doesn’t have a proper functioning lock (no outside key access)

My main concerns are:
Whether this type of home business is allowed in a residential unit
What rights I have as a roommate/licensee in Ontario
What I can do about safety (strangers in the home + no proper room lock)
Whether I can report zoning/by-law issues anonymously
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Buy or Rent portable pool vacuum

I have two family members who went to USA, and had their pool not serviced for more than a year.

What is the most economical way to rent a pool vaccum to clean it out? I have the pump, but don't have any vacuum.

Since the real estate market in oakville has been totally destroyed since 2022 and labor market in downturn, they would not be able to sell their properties. I am also considering buying one, so that I can do the cleaning work for them. It can be using cord, or cord less, needs to have good power, as they have mud and leafs in the pool. Both pool are flat bottom, and above ground. Small pool, only 20-30ft x 10ft size, only 5ft-6ft deep.

Does anyone having any experience with home pool cleaning?

One more question about landlord & leaseholder question

I rent a room from a leaseholder in Ontario (we share the kitchen and bathroom). The upstairs AC stopped working during the heat wave. When I asked about getting it repaired, the leaseholder dismissed my concerns, made rude comments, and refuses to give me the property owner’s contact information. They only provided a portable AC after repeated requests. Can a leaseholder refuse to provide the owner’s contact? Do I have any rights or options in this situation? And how?

What’s on this squirrel’s face and ears?

Excuse my ignorance regarding wildlife, but I had this squirrel come to my bird feeder. I noticed it had something strange on its face and ears. I believe it has a tick on its ear, but I could very well be wrong about that.

Does anyone know what it has on its face and is it something I would have to contact a wildlife organization to report?

I am going to wash the bowl once the squirrel leaves (I do a weekly wash of the bowl). I just want to make all wildlife eating from the bird feeder are safe from any potential diseases spreading.

I don’t recognize this country anymore .

Hey guys.

I’m a Somali-Canadian. My family immigrated to Canada in 1997. The Chrétien era. I was 3 when I arrived in Canada. I’m 32 now. I’ve been here my whole life.

I don’t recognize this country anymore. There’s just too much immigrants. How are you guys feeling about it? Especially Arabs, South Asians, and Africans. Latinos are welcome - wish we had more of them tbh haha 🤪

But yeah. I’m unhappy in this country recently. Too many new immigrants. Canada used to be such a white country. I miss those days 😭Thats why I’m so nostalgic for Canada 2000-2014. lol

As a Somali , I prefer to live in white neighbourhoods and go to white majority malls. I’m sick & tired of going to the mall and seeing only Arabs, south Asians and African people

I genuinely really miss seeing white people in Canada lol 😭

Moving to Stoney Creek.

So we have decided the only way we will get on the property ladder is to move out of Oakville. We have found a nice house within budget in Stoney Creek the only thing is our son has one year of High School left. How hard is it to keep kids in an HDSB school if you move out of town. The school he’s at isn’t over subscribed as far as I know and given the fact he will be on full time CO-OP the last semester and attending Mohawk college in Hamilton for part of it.

Oakville live chat. Work, services and job opportunities.

Hello everyone!
First of all, I want to sincerely thank this community for being so welcoming. The people here have been incredibly kind, respectful, and supportive, especially when it comes to my project.
ONhere is a free app I built to help people connect locally. Every city has its own live community chat where you can ask questions, get recommendations, share local news, or simply connect with people nearby. You can create your own profile, add friends or clients, send private messages, find or offer local jobs and services, promote your business, and build your reputation through recommendations.
My goal is to make it easier for local communities to connect, support one another, and find trusted people and services nearby.
We’re still growing, but more people are joining every day, and I couldn’t be more grateful for all the support.
If you have a moment, I’d love for you to give ONhere a try and see how useful it can be in everyday life. Your feedback means a lot and helps me continue improving the app for everyone.
It’s completely fre e, and if it’s not for you, you can delete it at any time.
Thank you all again for your kindness and support- it truly means the world to me. ❤️

Help Me Find a Trusted Hairstylist in Oakville

I think I officially have one of the hardest problems to solve—finding a new hairstylist!

The person who had been cutting my hair for years has retired, and I'm hoping to find someone new in Oakville. I'm looking for a stylist who has plenty of experience, does consistently good work, and charges reasonable prices. I'd rather pay for skill than a fancy salon experience.

If you have someone you'd recommend without hesitation, I'd really appreciate hearing about them. Thanks!

Wifi issues Marlborough Crt

I can't find anybody discussing this, but has anyone in Marlborough apartments had issues with the internet?? I moved in around a month ago, and my internet service has had several outages, 1-2 times a week. For reference, I use bell and whenever I search if there's an outage, it usually says it's due to equipment issues. Since it's happened so many times, I'm curious if this is a building or area issue??? Very frustrating and odd considering how many students live in the area, including myself, and need good internet
