Scam Alert: driveway contractor

My fiancée answered the door today to an Irish man claiming he had done an asphalt job near my home and had enough left to finish my driveway (which is visibly in crap conditon). He says its usually $7500 but he'll do it for $4500 since its already in the truck. I'm watching this conversation through my doorbell cam and remembered a scam with this exact situation I read on reddit! The man hands his business card to my fiancee and goes off but not before reminding her that it needs to be done in the next few minutes or the asphalt will go cold.

The scam is that he'll do the job very poorly and will charge double of what he verbally quoted.

The first red flag is the urgency and pressure sale.

Second red flag is his decieving business card which has the name of EllisDons. Which may seem familiar because EllisDon is one of the biggest developers in the GTA. But its EllisDon not EllisDonS. Also the phone number isn't on any public site.

Check out the photo of the card and a photo of the man.

I don't think there is much police can do about him unfortunately. Any ideas would be great.

Edit: Great feedback from the community. Thanks to those who shared their stories. I'm glad this post helps.

Missing detail: he drove a white pick up truck today. Another user said he's seen him before driving a black pick up when doing a asphalt sealing scam.

Ontario: Enbridge Attic insulation rebate, is it a scam?

I got a quote from a local company in November 2025:

600sqft attic, R21 to R60, baffling, air sealing

$1300

This company wasn't approved for the rebate so I got quotes from 2 other companies that quoted $2600 and $2800. Rebate of $1000.

The company who quoted me in November has ads all over saying they're now approved for the rebate, we contacted them to get the $1300 price with the $1000 rebate and they're said they need to requote since our quote wasn't done after Feb 2026.

They came and quoted us $2500.

Are companies just jacking up their prices to pocket our rebate?

Tip for leaving Civitavecchia port to FCO airport

I just came back from a RC cruise that ended at Civitavecchia. I had planned on taking a 9am shuttle to FCO for my flight at 2pm. I prebooked the 40 euro per person shuttle from the port to FCO because the train times didn't work out for me. But on embarkment day I was handed a little flyer for CivitaTours that advertised 30 euro per person to FCO from the port leaving at 9am and 940am. I WhatsApp'd the number on the flyer and verified they have shuttles available for my disembarkment day. Did some research and found out they were not a scam and then I booked the 9:40am shuttle online with them with my creditcard and canceled the 40 euro shuttle.

It worked out very well for us. We took our time in the morning and enjoyed a coffee. After leaving the ship we saw a MASSIVE line for the shuttle to take passengers to the train station. The free shuttle line to Largo Della Pace (meeting point) was empty, we got on right away for a 5min bus ride. CivitaTours was very well organized with people to check you in and luggage handlers. They all had yellow t shirts that read CivitaTours staff. We arrived at 9am and they had 2 shuttles already. They loaded us up and we were off to the airport at 9:15am. They take a toll road which took around 40mins to arrive at FCO.
Great option if you don't want to take a bus to the train station and then a 1.5hr train ride to FCO.

Career transition advice: How to transition from Finance Manager to an HR role?

Hi my fiancée has been, in my eyes, suffering in finance for years. She's amazing (efficient and affective) at her job but it's a lot of stress and she's working 12hrs a day. She's the hardworking smart type which I have to try to remind her to not work so hard at 10pm when she's working on expenses.

She started out of college into a startup with a great mentor. She did every roll (including HR) in the beginning, picked the finance route, and ended up pretty much running the company. She eventually had to process the acquisition of the company which took a lot out of her as well. After a few years the company let her go as well as most of the company including the CEO. She found a job at her current company which is based in Asia so she's working long hours.

She's quite easy to get along with and everyone likes her. She's been getting close to her HR department and thinking about moving over.

TL/DR: My question is how can she best prepare herself to transition to an HR roll from finance? What qualification or experience is HR looking for?

(I'm a tradesman so please excuse me if I didn't use correct terminology as I'm not in the corporate world)

Asking for wedding experience at Cabo Riu Santa Fe

Hi there,

Has anyone had any experience with having a wedding done with Cabos Riu Santa Fe?

We're in the process of getting our flight and hotel done with Sunwing and they've linked us with Riu's wedding packages as well.

I can't find any reviews or photos of weddings at this resort. We were there last year and loved it though.

Any insight and advice is appreciated!

We want a wedding date of Feb 20th, 2027. Not sure how many guests will attend but I'm approximating 30.

Liquidation sale at Holiday Inn?

Has anyone been there this weekend? Any good deals?

Just saw their ads but only seen prices for underwear and socks- 1pk for $15 or 2 for $25. Doesn't seem that great.

They have random stuff from amazon, bay, etc.
