Is Rist Stupid?
Finished book 3 and the Rist chapters have been borderline unbearable for me, largely because of how gullible and stupid he seems to be? It feels like a huge contrast to how he was portrayed at the start of the series, where he was the "brains" of the trio.
It started with Rist sending and then asking if his letters ever reached Dann and Calen, as if they weren't fugitives running from the Empire after killing soldiers of the Empire. Rist also just doesn't really question how he got to Al' Nasla, instead he just takes the "we found u on the side of the road" as what happened without looking deeper into it.
Sure, every character has their flaws but at some point it becomes too much. After Ella crashes out on Rist for being a part of the Empire, Rist has this inner monologue where he talks about being confused on why Ella made it seem like he was betraying her and Calen. Did he forget that soldiers of the Empire killed Ella's parents???
Why does it seem like he's forgotten all events prior to waking up in Al' Nasla? Please tell me he gets better in Book 4, cause I think I'll just get pissed off whenever I read his chapters.
