Are 4+4 pin and 8 pin CPU cables the same?

Are 4+4 pin and 8 pin CPU cables the same?

I bought a Dark Power 14 850W and tried connecting the 8-pin CPU cable to the 8-pin CPU socket on motherboard.

The system failed to boot, the motherboard indicated a problem with the CPU.

Then I used 4+4pin cable and everything worked fine.

Both cables are labeled CPU without any differences in the manual. Maybe there are differences after all (well, besides the obvious one that 4+4 cable can be used for motherboards that only have a 4-pin socket)?

Or is there something else going on?

5080 OC and automatic switching of Afterburner profiles?

Hi.

The post kind a "share the results of overclocking" (is there a reason to flex?) and "ask a question" for further configuration.

I got a sample (MSI 5080 GAMING TRIO OС) with a slight coil whine, which can be heard in a completely quiet room as an electrical buzz (thank goodness, not a high-pitched mosquito squeak). The coil whine gets stronger under load, but then it soon masks into the fan noise, so it is not a big deal. But it also manifests itself in idle mode, when browsing and page scrolling, for example.

To mitigate the problem, I ended up with two profiles:

  1. High performance (+460MHz, 975mV) - for gaming, coil whine affected.
  2. Ultra-quiet mode (core reduced to 2200MHz, 800mV) - for daily desktop usage, with zero coil whine.

So I want to use my OC profile when some game is lunched, an quiet mode - for everything else.

I tried to set up automatic profile management, but in any scenario it only uses 3D profile.

I have Afterburner 4.6.7 + RivaTuner 7.3.7. How can this be made to work?

Or is it possible to adjust the curve for the universal profile so that when the video card is under low load, it doesn't try to raise the voltage above 800, and only raises it under real load? For example, here are two of my profiles:

High performance - Core +460MHz (up to 3160MHz in game), Mem +3000MHz, 975mV

Ultra-quiet mode - Core reduced to 2200MHz, 800mV
