Let's Talk about Armored All Might

Let's Talk about Armored All Might

So I just saw Trash Junkies' most recent post asking, "Why is no one playing AAM anymore?" and it really made me think. I play this character all the time to the point that I consider myself a OTP, and only now did I realize that I rarely fight other AAMs.

Mind you, I'm not going to defend the character since I've already made plenty of posts shitting on him. I'm just going to highlight some of his current weaknesses and theorize why people may have dropped him aside from the simple "not meta anymore, therefore no more play."

Going over some strengths first, he's a bit of an all-rounder: solid ranged attacks, good melee, flight, stuns, grabs, all good. But after all the nerfs he got, his way of playing has changed a lot.

(1) He's not as easy to play anymore

He went from an easy spam stunner to a stun merchant. Being a beamer with below average damage on his alpha made it so he can't win trades as often anymore. Now he really needs to keep the enemy stunned to win battles. This means the enemy needs to stay stunned as long as possible, making the strategy of "just shoot out all 4 drones" completely pointless. The 4 drones only really work to push people away from you. They're not that good for initiating fights. Using his ice alpha was kind of unnecessary back then because fire did much more damage, but now you kind of need the extra stun because his drones go on a longer cooldown.

(2) His mobility has taken big hits recently

It may not look like much, but having a character with no AOEs, mid close-range play, and no armor on any moves stay grounded for 15 whole seconds in, let's say, an endgame situation is pretty hard. Not impossible, but hard. You rarely have both dashes because just ascending a little bit consumes at least 23% of the gauge, and even if you don't hit penalty, it takes way longer than 15 seconds to get it back to 100%. So now you really have to use it carefully. His beta is great for mobility and running away, but using it mid-fight to escape is not a good idea because he goes in a straight line, meaning people can just line up their shots and take him out easily. You really need to be careful with his gauge.

(3) He is kind of boring to play

I personally enjoy him, but at the end of the day he's just a flying clicker with a stun. You point and click, and that's kind of it. He doesn't have insane combos like Rapid Deku, aside from that one melee combo that does 270 under the right conditions. He doesn't have supportive mechanics like Nejire, Ibara, or Froppy, and he doesn't have any big flashy AOE attacks. So if he gets nerfed and you don't already love the character, he kind of falls off for you.

(4) He has a couple of bugs that piss his players off

His drones may be infuriating to fight against, but sometimes they're really annoying to use. Sometimes they straight up disappear or crash into the ground without homing in on the enemy. His "coolest" combo, air beta into melee, sometimes completely drops because he starts beefing with the air. Sometimes fire doesn't come out after using ice, and the beta has the most inconsistent hitbox in the goddamn game. Sometimes you have it perfectly lined up and it won't land, and other times you just throw it out randomly and it hits.

(5) He has some design weaknesses that people rarely acknowledge or exploit

Armored All Might, at his core, is a 1v1 character. His drones target one person, his beta into melee only hits one person, and his alpha isn't big enough to hit two people at a time. In a team game, that means he really struggles against multiple opponents at once. I'm not saying that's a bad thing since he's quite strong in 1v1s, but it's still a weakness. He also struggles fighting indoors or in enclosed spaces. While Nagant has ground gamma, Nejire has beta, and Hawks has charged alpha, Armored All Might doesn't really have any wide attacks. His alphas are slow and easy to roll since he needs to hold the button down to fire them rapidly, making them predictable. Again, he has no AOEs or armor, meaning that in tight spaces all he can really do is melee.

I expect to get some pushback because some people still despise this character, but I felt like it was worth talking about lmao

The Armored All Might Nerfs

This is all in good fun, not meant to be taken super seriously lol

How do you guys feel about the AAM nerfs? Do you think he still needs a couple more to be brought in line with the rest of the cast? Or is he fine as he is right now?

What are your hopes for this upcoming patch?

I don’t even know if it’s confirmed, but I’m hoping we get a patch this Wednesday. This game definitely needs one considering how little has changed since Season 15.

I’d like to know what you guys are hoping to see in the next patch! Personally, here’s what I’m hoping for:

NERFS:

Nerfs to Support Nejire’s alpha, either damage, size, or fire rate. Also rework her beta so it isn’t completely unavoidable. Increase the cooldown on gamma as well.

Lady Nagant nerfs overall. I don’t even know anymore, man. I’m just tired of her.

Rapid Deku public execution.

Big Strike Kirishima nerfs.

Nuclear nerfs for Tech Mirio. Rework his alpha so it actually has brief invincibility and isn’t completely safe. Maybe also lower the fire rate or damage. I feel like most of his damage should come from the counter.

Armored All Might special action nerfs. Make his dash consume 100% of the gauge, rework beta into a 2-ammo move so he can’t use it 3-4 times for movement, or lower his HP to 300.

Tech Shigaraki gamma nerf/rework. Make it so he heals HP first, and once that’s full, he heals GP. That way, the immortal build can finally go away. Maybe reduce the alpha damage a little too, by around 15 or so.

Strike Bakugo gamma damage nerfs.

Assault Shigaraki downpower nerfs.

Strike Denki alpha damage nerf.

Strike Hawks alpha change. I don’t get why it stuns on HP.

Froppy alpha cooldown nerf and beta damage nerf. Also nerf her special action cooldown.

BUFFS:

Tech Dabi alpha damage buff.

Assault Endeavor alpha and beta buffs.

Rapid Toga HP buff back to 300.

Strike Shigaraki back to 350 HP.

I didn’t really put that much thought into these. I’m more interested in hearing what you guys want to see!

So, I imagine most people already know about Nana Shimura being added to All’s Justice as a playable character. This was extremely unexpected, since she plays a fairly minor role in the show and has never really been shown fighting. We’ve only gotten a few glimpses of her past with Toshinori Yagi, her death, and her vestige scenes.

After checking out the trailer and really analyzing her moves, I can see a lot of potential for her in Ultra Rumble. Her Float ability makes it obvious she’s going to be a flyer. In my opinion, those are some of the most fun characters in the game, though I might be biased since I love playing Armored All Might and Young All For One. She’s also a One For All wielder, which means super strength is basically guaranteed.

When you think about it, she might be the closest thing to a Superman-type character we’ll ever get in the game. A flying hero who can hit incredibly hard.

After watching her trailer a bunch, it seems like her projectiles are very limited. She only has something like a kick variant of Rapid All Might’s beta, with the same X-pattern and everything. I don’t really see Ultra Rumble adding that exact move since it would feel like a copy-paste attack, just with a different color.

So what does this mean? She might be our first FULL MELEE FLYER, which is something we don’t really have right now. The closest comparison would be Rapid Hawks with his beta, but I’m imagining more like Assault Kirishima with WINGS.

That would also help balance things out. She wouldn’t be overly oppressive to grounded characters like Strike Shigaraki or Momo, and she could be great in aerial fights by contesting other flyers. I’m honestly really excited for her. I might even start saving now, although I’ll probably still stick with AAM since I like his design more.

What do you guys think?

I kinda ran out of post ideas since this season has finally entered its dry period, so I thought doing something more fun and interactive might be a good change.

I’m a really big AAM fan. I’ve been playing him nonstop since he released, and I don’t plan on dropping him anytime soon. I love how versatile he is. Being able to do a bit of everything is super fun. Having a decent ranged option and a good stun tool also helps a lot. He might be a bit lacking in close-range combat, but he’s really strong in pretty much everything else, so I can’t complain.

I also love who he is in the show and what he represents. The idea of a powerless man standing up to an all-powerful god, laughing in his face while constantly trying to provoke him, is just pure gold to me. I’m also a sucker for cool armor designs and a massive All Might fan in general. I was always going to main him the moment I saw him in the manga.

Now, why do you like your main?
