The reason why is because the Steam Controllers were only up for 30 minutes until they sold out. And immedietly after resellers listed the controllers on ebay which some of them are double the price than what is being sold retail. I think what really needs to happen when the Steam Frame/Steam machine come out is restrict the purchases for people who have a older steam account, a good amount of money spent on the account and play time hours to keep bot accounts from buying them all up. Because this is dissapointing to say the least......
