didn’t knew it would be our last interaction… he sent me a game from the ER

Begged him for months to go see a doctor but he only did it when it became unbearable..

It's bittersweet and I'm still processing it.. (il probably cry my soul out anyway)

But it's so heartwarming to know he thought about me even when he was at the ER

More Steam Hardware?

How cool would it be if, in addition to a Steam Controller, there was also a wireless Steam keyboard and a Steam mouse that connect to the same puck from the Steam Controller or directly to the Steam Machine?

Edit: this would make it possible for Steam Machine users to have all 4 USB Ports free for something else, while being able to use it as a normal Computer

Edit 2: It would also be interesting to have a good trackpad on the keyboard, wich could be useful for people like sim racers or for couch gamers, although I don’t think it would be very convenient for the latter

Help convincing an elderly neighbor that Steam gift cards aren't currency

Hey everyone,

I recently befriended a sweet 75-year-old neighbor who is constantly being scammed online. Some scammers claim to be from charities, others befriend her over days or months before asking her for gift cards.

The two worst right now:

  • A "general" who has built a romantic relationship with her and constantly asks for Steam gift cards so he can "pay for his internet" and keep talking to her.
  • Someone claiming to be Prince William who needs her to pay for a charity delivery, also, somehow, via Steam gift cards.

But why am I posting here? I've already explained to her that Steam gift cards can only be used on the Steam store, which sells video games and software. But understandably, she isn't fully convinced. These are "people" she talks to every day, she's sent them gift cards before, and she's only known me for less than a month. It makes sense that she wouldn't take my word for it over theirs, especially with emotions involved, even if she's not rude about it at all and is really respectful about her doubts.

What I think would work is if she could hear it from an actual Steam representative, over the phone, email, or chat, confirming that you can't pay for internet or charity deliveries with Steam gift cards.

Is there any way to make that happen? I don't think this help page will cut it on its own, since she "knows" these "people." Any tips would be appreciated.

P.S. This lady is in a really tough financial situation and genuinely can't afford to keep losing money like this. To make things harder, she has a condition that affects her mobility, doesn't seem to get many visitors, and isn't originally from this country. Most of her family lives overseas. That means almost all of her social needs are met online, which is part of why these scammers have such a strong hold on her.

Steam Controller Reservations

Has anyone actually gotten an email yet for the purchase of a Steam controller through their reservation?

Just curious because I was moments away from ordering another Ultimate 2 controller but decided to hold off since I got a reservation in.

Thank you Steam for this!

Bought the controller and it was accidentally shipped from the Netherlands to UK. They offered me a free game and I asked for Forza Horizon 6 and they really added it to my library.

What are the chances that these 3 games come to Steam? And would you want them?

Honestly I know loads of people hate these games, but honestly there all a big part of gaming history and it would be cool to see them Imo (For fans of these games, it’s great, and if you don’t what them just don’t download them.

Is the steam machine competative

Hello, it seems to me that Valve is branding the Steam Machine as something between a Console and a MiniPC. Yet it feels to me that it is not competetive as either a Console nor a MiniPC. That is unless it costs like 500€ in which case we’re robbing Valve.

(context: I am debating whether to go for a MiniPC or Laptop; as I do want an upgrade yet my current laptop fits most of my needs)

Thanks

Anyone else notice Steam taking longer to start on boot recently?

I've noticed since around 3 or 4 months ago that steam is taking much longer to open automatically after computer boots up. Nothing has changed on pc (other than Win11 updates) in that time. It literally has nothing but Steam installed and some controller utilities (Xbox accessories & Ds4 Windows). Bloatware was all removed when I reimaged after purchase.
It used to take about 10-20 seconds max after getting to desktop, now it's well over a minute or 2 sometimes. Running in BPM does make it slightly faster but it's still slower to start in BPM now than it was ~4 months ago.

Anyone else experiencing this as well?

I searched the sub for other posts but none seemed to mention the launch at PC boot setting (just opening from taskbar).
PC Specs, in case anyone tries to say "get a better PC":
CPU: Core i9-12900H
RAM: 32GB (4800)
SSD: 1TB m.2 NVME
GPU: RTX3080 (10GB)

Why does steam display different storage necessityes for some games ?

I found out this some evenings ago; today I downloaded a 4,4 GB game, but it makes me redo it (maybe a normal update). I don't know what's happening tbh. I found some other games do that too like subnautica.

If you bring any Mobile Games to Steam, what would they be?

Personally I would want Disney Magic Kingdoms (City building game with Disney characters)
