I'm curious how Thumbtack screens installers because I purchased installation through Lowes not knowing that they simply outsource finding an installer to Thumbtack, despite Lowes providing lots of information about screening. The installer never showed up, it was rescheduled and then he didn't show up again. Thumbtack gave me the number to contact the installer directly and it was a totally different company than Thumbtack said on the installation information. In fact the number was an AI system, which I suspect is sort of a Thumbtack for Thumbtack. Given that, I am doubting that this guy was screened at all since it is unclear that Thumbtack even knows who he is if they gave me the wrong company. (The company they said does exist, it just doesn't appear that the job was through them).

Very bad experience purchasing installation through the Portage Lowes, and want to warn other. Their installations are through a third party, which is not itself a problem. In store I was told that for this product it was one guy who serviced two local store, so it seemed very convenient even if it was a bit overpriced. It turns out that in fact they just contact Thumbtack (which of course is not "one local guy"--Thumbtack just sells leads) and have no further information. I waited all day for the guy Thumbtack supposedly had sub contracted and he never showed up. It was rescheduled for the next day in a very specific window. The guy never showed up again. After some digging, I found that the guy is not even with the company Thumbtack said he was, assuming he exists. The local Lowes will do nothing beyond refund for the job that they didn't do and in the end were quite rude. 0/10 avoid at all costs.
