Portable watercolor setup, I'd love your tips and examples...

I'm going to start taking the train to a nearby major city to sketch and paint architecture.

I have a pretty good idea of the supplies I'll be taking, and a collapsible tripod stool.

What I don't have is a surface to work on (I work on a horizontal surface), or something to hold my supplies while working.

I'm wondering if anyone has tips about these things, or doing artwork while traveling in general?

Any ideas, or examples of your setups would be most appreciated, thanks.

Light pole with church

I don't like so many things about this one, but I learned several things that I will definitely do better next time. That's a win in my book. I'm starting to think that I need to work faster. The slower I go and the more detail I add, the less I like my work 🤔

Grain co-op American Midwest

[sketch was on location, inking was done later from a photo] I wasn't sure what flair really applied 🤷‍♂️

I'm new to this medium and subject matter, and I'm also new to this subreddit as well. Because of my location I draw a lot of barns, farm houses, and grain bins. Not exactly urban, but being that they are man made would they be appropriate here?
