I’ve spent the last 9-10 years of my life going to medical appointments and begging for referrals to be sterilized, or making it through getting a referral just to be turned down by the gynecologist. I sat down recently and worked out I’d spent over $4,000 on private appointments for them all to end in rejections.

I finally got a referral to see a lovely queer gynecologist last year who was open and willing to sterilize me, as well as perform either an endometrial ablation or a hysterectomy at the same time (I left it to her discretion as to which she thought I would be a better candidate for). It took me a year of appointments, psych assessments and waiting out the 12 month delay period for private health insurance to kick in, but today it finally happened!!

Surgery went really well, I’m recovering in hospital overnight then being discharged in the morning ☺️ I’ve never been so excited to spend time in a hospital!
