Trip scheduling is broken/poorly done.
Tesla is amazing at a software... but it seems there are just some things they got wrong and the "Set departure time/energy" is one of them.
Most people are going to have a daily limit set... I set mine for 75% for daily charging... I have the charging happen when My power is free from 8pm till 5am .... Seems reasonable and obvious right?
Well, this morning I am making the rare long trip. So I built the route in the app and set my departure time for 0630 with a departure energy of 95%.
With a slick and well designed app, what would have happened would have been for this scheduled trip to OVERRIDE my normal 75% limit as well as my charging window (perhaps an option to do so) so that my car was ready to go at 0630.
Well, this did not happen... Turns out my DAILY limit of 75% prevents the "set departure energy" from doing what I asked of it.
Apparently you have to go in a change the daily limit up to or above what you want the departure energy to be if you want it to actually happen. Then of course, you have to change it back when you resume normal daily driving. (Maybe even sooner if you want charging to stop at 80% at a SC????)
Tesla, come on, you are better at this when it comes to software. There is no reason that I shouldn't be able to operate with a daily limit and charge schedule and not have to change it all to accommodate a long trip. Just have the Trip scheduler override the normal limit. Including the normal charging window. For instance in this case, what would have been Desirable is for the charging logic to bring me to the normal 75% during the off peak hours... but start charging again at whatever time needed to hit the 95% I wanted by 0630.
