PMDD in the Workplace
I’ve come to realize that there isn’t as much conversation about PMDD in the workplace or professional settings as I feel there should be, so I wanted to open the floor for conversation:
One of the hardest parts of PMDD for me hasn’t just been the symptoms themselves, it’s trying to maintain the same level of performance at work every single day of the month. There are weeks where I feel productive, focused, communicative, and am really killing it at work. Then there are weeks where replying to one email feels overwhelming and every task suddenly feels next to impossible.
For a long time I thought I just needed more discipline or better time management. But honestly, a lot of traditional productivity advice made me feel worse because it ignored the reality of PMDD completely. So lately I’ve been learning how to build more cycle-aware work systems instead of forcing myself to function the exact same way every day, and it’s changing the way I think about burnout, consistency, and productivity at work.
I’m curious if other people experience this too. So allow me to pose the following questions:
- What part of PMDD affects your work the most?
- Have you noticed patterns in your focus, emotions, productivity, or confidence throughout the month?
- Have you found anything that genuinely helps?
I feel like a lot of ambitious women are silently struggling with this professionally while trying to look “fine” at work all the time. Would genuinely love to hear other people’s experiences.
