Study with Autistic Girls

Study with Autistic Girls

Hello everyone! My name is Carrie, I’m a 27 year old autistic woman. I’m currently doing my PhD, which is centred around the experiences of autistic teenage girls.

On my main account, I am an active member of this community and have contacted the mods and received approval to make this post. I am using a new account to make this post to keep my personal account private and separate from professional activity as a researcher. I was inspired to do this research because, as a late diagnosed autistic girl, I did not see myself represented in ‘autism’, and particularly not in Autism research. I am trying to fill that gap from the inside, and this project is lead by myself (an autistic woman) and supervised by another autistic woman. This research is by autistic women, for autistic girls.

Do you know any autistic girls aged 12-17 who might want to learn about and share their opinions on research that includes them?

I conducted a systematic review of qualitative methods used to elicit autistic girl's voices in research. I identified 12 methods across 84 studies. I would like to share these methods with autistic girls and hear what they think about them.

There are three steps to taking part in this research:

  1. Meet with me to learn about methods that have been used to involve autistic girls in research that asks them to share their opinions, thoughts, views, experiences or feedback.
  2. Take some time to think about these methods.
  3. Meet with me a second time to discuss your thoughts on these methods. I will also ask some specific questions about them. You'll receive a copy of these questions before we meet.

If you know any autistic girls who might be interested in taking part, please share this poster with them and their parent/guardian. The QR code will contain more information, contact details, and a link to the consent form to take part 😊
