Hi everyone,

I'm an Indian citizen currently in my 3rd year of medical school in Italy. I didn't give NEET, so I'm not eligible for FMGE/NExT and can't practice in India.
I'm planning to give USMLE and apply for residency in the
US. I understand that most IMGs get a J-1 visa through ECFMG, which requires a Statement of Need (SON) from the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Has anyone in a similar situation (Indian citizen, studied abroad, no NEET/FMGE eligibility) successfully obtained a SON?
If not, Is it basically impossible without being eligible to practice in India?
Would really appreciate any guidance or real experiences!
